Re: 383, 11.6 compression, pump gas advice
FWIW I think your 93 octane is the same as our down under 98 RON. If your cam installed straight up will have intake valve close 51* ABDC @.050”. My 383 engine is 11.4:1 static and cam that intake closes 48* ABDC @.050”, timing 34*. Never heard a ping with our 98 RON fuel. If your heads aren’t porte...

Re: Soldering/drilling jets?
No harm. It just might be hit and miss and take several tries as you don’t know what the jets flow after drilling. The carb doesn’t care about number stamp or hole size, just the flow and pressure differential.

Re: So which heads will get my 358 in the high 10's
1000 M/D (limited time) and ya I know it was too big Maybe not as too big as first thought. Wished I would have gotten a few more runs as I would have like to run my modified 600 Holley VS I have. It works really good on intakes like this. Last time I ran it on this 358 with a different set of head...

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
It's a simple time/area thing. Without changing capacity to make more power you either gotta cram more air in per rev or turn more rpm, or both. Once you get much above 110% ve it's far easier to turn more rpm that to improve ve%. To go from say 6500 to 7000rpm peak power requires about 8% more tim...

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
I've been following this build with great interest and what has been acheived with valve size, mcsa and cam. Impressive and challenges some accepted norms. Steve, Tony, educate me on a cam of roughly 266* @.050" operating range and the heads being used that have 1.94" int valve, average 2.10 mcsa a...

Re: rod bolt torque compared to stretch
But the actual stretch is so much more important than the torque applied. I have to agree with you there Tom. It’s the tension the bolt is under due to it’s stretched condition that provides the necessary clamping force, not the twisting force applied to tighten the bolt. Just look at LS critical b...

Re: Drilling holes in head gaskets = more flow = lower temps: Change My Mind!
You have to get your head around flow and think distribution. https://www.felpro.com/technical/tecblogs/size-and-position-of-coolant-holes-on-gaskets.html Fun fact: coolant flow through a radiators core must go turbulent to ensure heat transfer from wall of tubes to the fins. Laminar flow would make...

Re: Looking for some Help...SBC Oil fouling plug
Picture of said plugs?
Oil coming down from the top will mist (atomize) a bit through being caught in intake air and burn different than oil coming up from the bottom.

Re: Questions about ports that stall, and cam lift.
Scroll down to “notes on airflow” https://jonkaaseracingengines.com/shop/cylinder-heads/kaase-p-51-cylinder-heads/ Thanks for that, great insights. A statement from a very smart guy from a now defunct forum looks at it the same but from a different perspective “please consider thinking about an eng...
