Re: why not smooth casting surfaces on conrods and the crank?
By the same token, do you also assert that the smoother the surface, the more surface area it has? Your right and I have used the wrong terminology in my haste. Greater surface area with rough surface. Better adhesion with smooth or at least the same. But, from what I understand material matters to...

Re: why not smooth casting surfaces on conrods and the crank?
It doesn’t work that way. You have what’s called ADHESIVE FORCES which is attractive forces between molecules of different types, fluid oil and metal in this case. A bead of water sitting on a vertical window pane that does not run down the window until it reaches a certain size with added water is ...

Re: dropped base air cleaner
.... its on a single plane intake and that has created a clearance problem in the Vega..... Still haven’t mentioned what single plane? Your aim is to avoid a hole in the hood and single plane manifolds can vary in inches from Weiand 7530 Team G @ 4.095” through to a Super Victor II @ 6.5” with a mu...

Welcome to the land of compromises.

Or revisit intake manifold. What’s on there now?
Does the carb have a choke horn?

Re: Suggestions for Running a Quiet Solid Roller Valvetrain
The age old dilemma of knowing what you want and the other half not being as enthusiastic. Cruising with the spouse regularly may only happen with hyd roller.
Good luck and bless you.

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
Jamie, 105 ICL, I wanted to test ICL on dyno but boys said it will only rock the curve up or down and probably not show power increases?? Because my car heavy the suggestion was to test at the track 105* ICL, there it is in post 1. I should have checked. Did you get a VE figure? I played around wit...

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
Intake lobe for a 1.6 rocker Exhaust using 1.5 rocker As stated I ran a 1.7 rocker. So around .690” lift on the intake. 30* overlap @.050”. Int close 49* @.050” ABDC. That kind of intake area, overlap, intake velocity with port and valve sizes and enough exhaust timing for cylinder fill and closing...

Re: Engine Diagnosis
Check metering block gasket is sealing the squirter hole to carb body. If that’s not an effective seal fuel will go into the pv vacuum chamber in the body. Cold might like the extra fuel but not warmed up. Just a thought.

Re: What happened here ?
Was that a 950hp? I think the 950 is in name only and actually flows less than a true 850 cfm carb? https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=22238&sid=a63cfd338c843200b1dba386fa510551 It flows the most on that test with least vacuum so it's the highest flowing of those carbs. Yep, it’s ...

Re: Anyone know anything about these heads?
Good starting point, not too big, not so small you gotta hog a bunch out. Use 2.055" intakes. What would be the kind of mcsa and throat sizes for 383ci for peak torque around 4500rpm? Around 500-530hp @ 6000? 4500rpm peak tq should make peak hp at 6000 or thereabouts. A 383 at 105-110% ve should ma...
