Re: Exhaust sizing race car

Totally forgot about that muffler. I have never personally handled any oval Flowmasters. Id imagine its like with any of their other race type offerings it essentially terminates the end of the exhaust length at the inlet of the muffler. So this may be a length game play. However...after some more t...

Re: Header Questions

Please someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe what proheader meant by collector pulse timing is trying to separate and equalize when cylinders arrive at the collector vs a traditional equal length headers because of dual plane v8s firing order.. So lets say the traditional 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 f...

Re: Exhaust sizing race car

What model flowmaster? I do not recall any dual 3.5 inlet Flowmaster mufflers.

Re: GM G-body rear shocks, but shorter

Late to the party but I used AeroStar shocks front and rear on my slammed Gbody about 6 years ago. The fronts were basically the same length but fatter (i used drop arms in the front) and the rear they were 2 or 3inch shorter and I think I had to change the top mount. I remember doing it at home wit...

Re: Electric Exhaust Cutout Pro & Con's

I have had Doug's cutouts on my street/strip car for 3 years with no issues. Are the Doug's version electrically operated? I think the original intent of this thread was to determine durability. The dougs are electronic. But instead of a butterfly like a throttle the whole plate swings out of the w...

Re: Electric Exhaust Cutout Pro & Con's

In my experience they pretty much always fail more sooner then later. Also they all leak. QTP, Badlandz, etc

That being said, the few Dougs cut outs I have been involved with never leaked nor failed (that I am aware with).

They have a purpose but usually I like the modern vacuum style ones

Re: Loud Exhaust

Seems like its hung properly. Leaving the mufflers as the main culprit. Ive only used the AP big max turbos a few times in the last 20~ years. I do not remember much about them (beyond just a basic turbo muffler). A 20inch case turbo in general should be quite. I am wondering if they put something d...

Re: Loud Exhaust

How its mounted can really make or break the system droning.

20" case length turbo mufflers are generally quite mellow so Id be looking like how the system is hung from the car and obviously make sure nothing is hitting.

Re: You don't need a fuel pressure regulator with a blow trough turbo carburator setup

So next on the blow through setup questions, how to make a carb that's not a holley do what you want it to... Got a small oddball Japanese kei car that could do with 5-10 psi down its throat and the factory blow through setups (even for the 1l locally delivered cars) are rare. It had a boost second...

Re: You don't need a fuel pressure regulator with a blow trough turbo carburator setup

How I ran mine when I had my turbo 267sbc. Used a china Jegs high volume mechinal pump and JB welded a barb fitting to the vent. Made sure it only sees boost no vacuum. I did boost reference the float bowls. That required some fine tuning of the lines feeding them. I started with them in the throat ...

Re: Runner Diameter for turbo manifold

I never did update this. I got the manifold completed back in like January and it works really well. I am using a different turbo then I was last year. Response is strong, the way the torque comes in is different then I have ever felt before in a turbo car. For lack of a better way to describe it, i...

Re: SwitchFire X pipe

I think there is a better way to acheive the "idea" thats less disruptive. Ive had a plan in my head for a few years before they came out with this and just have not had the opportunity to make one to test yet.

Re: Runner Diameter for turbo manifold

3/4 of the way done on my .87" ID manifold. Admittedly in hindsight the 1.75" OD collector might be a touch big. I just matched the turbine inlet and went down 1 available size. The wastegate will come off the backside and snake down the front of the block.

Re: 1st time making Anti-Reversion devices

1.75 primaries are quite big for 150-odd hp... Would the first AR device be better off being part of the secondary-exhaust merge? No idea what diameter it should be though, but given that the engine is even fire it could probably be pretty small. They really are and your right its in the 150s. Like...

1st time making Anti-Reversion devices

Buddy of mine from way back brought me his road race car for a new exhaust. B13 Sentra with a SR20 in it. Essentially stock motor other then a header and a cone filter. He has had a cobbled together side exit exhaust for some time and was always fighting issues. Wanted something new and also to put ...
