Re: How to patch holes and other bodywork that's long-lasting?

And about the bondo thing, idk yet what's the best way to go about it... it's almost like all the bondo's that there are, aren't good enough. You'd probably want something that "sweats" a thin oil when you apply it. Thick oil paints for paintings come to mind... they're just BLO mixed with...

Re: How to patch holes and other bodywork that's long-lasting?

Well it seems the most popular options are boiled linseed oil (BLO), was used to coat frame rails in aircraft to keep them from rusting due to condensation caused by altitude change. wool oil, because it creeps into spot welded joints. pitch/tar thinned in diesel or gasoline or turpentine, etc. It s...

You don't need a fuel pressure regulator with a blow trough turbo carburator setup

I wanted to point this out since I've never seen it done; You can just plumb a boost line into the crankcase side of the fuel pump. Make sure it's sealed off any vents to that side of the pump. This will make the fuel pressure be "fuel pump spring pressure + boost pressure", So you wont lo...

Turbo questions

Rule bending aside, Is there a reason to go for an extended tip compressor over just a bigger compressor wheel, is the particular edge shape/angle any benefit? Why ever use a non-splitter compressor wheel? the efficiency is much lower, weight is higher, and I don't see any improvement with fully mai...

Re: "Running on gas vapors got me 400MPG" really?....

has anyone tried this and what was the dissapoitment? I presume it could help a bit, since the fuel sprayed from a carb may not fully evaporate and certainly wont fully mix with the air. but its obvious to me that 400mpg is not possible... so what is it really? It's called LP-Gas, 20 to 30 mpg. Gre...

Re: "Running on gas vapors got me 400MPG" really?....

Unfortunetly a real engine doesnt go by simple maths. To the surprise of many, all engines obey the laws of physics. Where do you think my data is wrong? A carburator has actually an advantage over fuel injection, ... A carb has two advantages over fuel injection: it is simple, and it is cheap. The...

Re: "Running on gas vapors got me 400MPG" really?....

Regarding the claimed superiority of carb over EFI in terms of mixture quality isn't that mighty conditional? Seems the carb components critical for that process are very airflow and depression dependant which to me indicates mixture quality fall-off outside optimal conditions and/or meaningful res...

Fuel economy mind game; anyone can play. Object is to build a vehicle that will obtain 400 mi/gal of gasoline. Frontal area = 8 ft^2 Cd = 0.23 Vel = 60mph Power needed = 2.5 hp @ 1500 rpm Bore = 46mm Stroke = 37.5mm Twin cylinder = 124.6 cc Baro =31.0 inHg Temp = 40F RH = 30 DCR = 16:1 BMEP = 13.02...

Re: Spark plug things

Sparks are not AC, they're pulsed DC with some ripple. Strictly speaking, "frequency" doesn't really matter, what matters is the rise and fall of the DC voltage which sort-of mimics AC. But that voltage rise-time (and "fall-time") wouldn't be tied to engine RPM except in the mos...

Re: Spark plug things

A internal combustion engine is simply driven on expanding hot air, not controlled small explosions. Where does that air come from? If you expand the air over 0.1 seconds, how good will the engine run at 5000rpm? Heat doesn't move the piston, pressure does, you can't have pressure without a medium,...

Spark plug things

According to David Vizard, (paraphrasing) it seems that engines that have the spark plug closer to the middle of the cylinder benefit from a stronger spark more than those that are on the side. Seems logical... When the spark is in the middle, the same increase in "spark ignited mixture" w...

I found this guy who has tons of videos on fuel efficiency thingies on his channel.
Check out his other videos he doesn't just use "faith" as proof like others in that field.
