Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
You can go smaller on MJ. Try #70 MJ with IAB’s .070 HSAB’s .031

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
Wow. Interesting. Totally different metering block and same exact symptoms. Not sure where to go from here. Copy that. Will do I did notice that this other metering block dod allow my to jun a 72 jet and it did flatten my fuel curve a little. 3000 rpm at 70 is now at 14.5 and if I give it a little ...

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
You only bought the adjustable secondary cap , not the whole unit? So are you using the check ball? “Tuner” can tell you the disadvantages of not having the brass tube. This is what I would do. PMJ #74 IAB’s .070 HSAB’s .031 TSR .064 This is a must do. Secondary plates closed plus 1/8 turn or just s...

Re: Carb Tuning: IAB and Transition
Your 950 AED is a 750 main body with an 850 baseplate that flows about 830 cfm. Correct me if I'm wrong. I assume your idle vacuum of 13.5 inches is taken with trans in neutral/park. !.75 turns out on all 4 idle mixture mixture screws is a result of the small .029" IFR indicating it could use a...

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
Some of the Chevrolet OEM Holley carbs used lower air bleed in primary venturi’s to control AFR. In the picture below you can see it goes to the transfer slot passage. These were used on 1969 396/375HP , 427/425HP , 1970-72 LT1 Corvette/Z28 and LS6. These are ones that I have worked on, but I’m sure...

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
Have you installed the .064 TSR yet? Or at least tapped it for easy install next.
Does this carb have the brass tube in the primary that I pictured ?

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
Did you buy this carb new? I would think this carb came with a quick change secondary pod not an adjustable pod like a Quick Fuel carb. Does this carb have a brass tube in the primary venturi for the secondary vacuum pod? (picture) You do not need a bottoming tap. A regular tap will work fine. Just ...

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice
Yes throw those old intakes away , you have two choices left. Even though a Quadrajet is a great carb , I would use a Holley carb for the bigger primaries throttle response.
You should list your engine specs.

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
"It runs great but my plugs are black and I burn through fuel a lot."
I don't know what would be different about that carb to require a #77 primary jet. On a 750 I usually end up with about #69 primary jet along with about 68 to 70 TSR.

Re: Are the factory refurbished Holley carbs worth getting?
I have a buddy that was telling me he was going to get some of those Holley factory refurbished carbs. Not the new models, but the old gold colored classic ones. Like the L-1850, and the 450 cfm type. He's wanting a L-3310 780 cfm, and a 650 double pumper. I looked at them and they don't have a war...

Re: Cooling tricks with iron headed hot rods?
You won’t get good answers from those guys (Engine Masters) . First of all, run on or dieseling is caused by throttle blades open too far at idle given all else is correct. This is what I have. BBC Monte Carlo 500+ hp with iron heads used for street touring. I run a $300 2 core aluminum rad with wid...
