Re: Tow Truck Engine
I would rebuild the 350 with the sportsman heads. The sportsman heads flow about the same as the Vortec head.

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build
Thanks. Is that measurement at( under ) the step? I take the step to .490. What is the smallest inside diameter of the booster? Usually the Holley booster measures .380 smallest portion. Had to correct that.

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build
Airflow ( Mark should easily relate to this ) There are a few simple things you can do to improve airflow, especially on older carbs. The first thing I do is shorten the screws in the throttle blades flush with the shaft. The old brass screw heads can be machined thinner to a more domed shape. I pre...

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build
Dressing the inlet of the booster to a sharp edge causes more air to flow thru the booster ( improves signal ). The step machined in the booster improves fuel atomization ( shearing effect ). The more air flow thru the booster makes the booster more responsive. Booster signal and Fuel atomization at...

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build
I suspect the BLP boosters are, but I have never used their' booster. I would suspect they could use a little dressing on the top of the booster. The modifications I make do not require the booster to be removed from the carb. It is quicker and less expensive. Another note is to level the booster in...

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build
For larger Venturi carbs such as the 850 cfm Holley I start with the Booster to improve signal . I don't believe the the 4781 - 850 had stepped boosters. Look at the pictures , turn your carb over , open the throttle and look at yours. First thing to do is machine a step in the booster. Next , I alw...

Re: Inexpensive 350 Build
As a lot of things, it comes down to the details. The Holley List # is important when comparing carbs. In regards to 4150 Holley Carbs Venturi Throttle Bore 750 Holley 1- 3/8 1-11/16 4781-850 Holley 1-9/16 1-3/4 1000 Holley 1-9/16 1-3/4 750 Holley carbs were built over the years in various configura...

Re: carburettor cleaning
Sounds like I will have to do more research. The CARBURETOR SHOP had a page on carburetor finishes which said the Carter aluminum was left natural. https://www.thecarburetorshop.com/Carbu ... htm#Carter

Re: carburettor cleaning
I don't believe that ford autolite two barrels had a chromate coating. I have cleaned a lot of Edelbrock ARB style carbs in it and they come out nice and shiny. Providing corrosion has not attacked the metal. The solution does not remove corrosion only dirt and grime. That is the 2100 series Ford c...

Re: carburettor cleaning
A few years ago I worked in a shop that had a $5,000 dollar, about 90 gallon Ultrasonic machine . It used $200 worth of chemical every time you changed the solution. The tank had a circulation pump and large filter system that you ran when the ultrasonic was turned off. They had about four different...
