Re: When does custom porting become beneficial?

Carnut1 has a great write up on his 093 head porting. He really got it to the next level, and got them flowing as good as a Vortec if I remember correctly. 2.02/1.6 valves. Speaking to 3rd gen mods...I once saw an IROC at the 1/4 mile track in the pits...with all the TPI flow aftermarket stuff... I ...

Re: When does custom porting become beneficial?

Rob, 3rd Gen Camaros were always one of my favorite cars. Modding the 350 roller sbc should be treated like the restriction plate race engine setup. The TPI will only ever flow so much based on the plenum size and rubber lengths. Add in the use of stock modded parts only, it will only flow so much. ...

Re: When does custom porting become beneficial?

Pre-Covid Profiler heads were a great head for a reasonable price. Now they're sky high.

2019 they were $507 each bare. SBC All American.

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?

I have always wondered why so many people continue to run their vacumn advance off of Port vacumn instead of manifold. And even fewer know that it is possible to adjust how much advance they can have in their vacumn advance units...etc. Engines always like as much advance as you can deliver whether...

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?

Higher comp [within reason] will give greater power/efficiency for a given capacity at full throttle. At part throttle higher comp is not really playing a part here as we are not filling the cylinder with fuel air mixture, burn efficiency is at play here, chamber design, an active charge and fuel/i...

Re: Cranking compression results are in

I have gone back and read the OP a couple times and don't fully understand what the question(s?) are the OP is asking, so SilverChicken would you read it again yourself and restate your case with a different interpretation, perhaps separate the ideas with paragraphs. I think questions are about the...

Re: mill off choke tower? any dyno tests?

Choke horn is a larger problem when aircleaner/spark arrestor are factored into the equation. Here is the link to Bill Jones' current location of his Holley carb mods. http://ryanbrownracing.com/Bill_Jones_Page_4.html Lots of great ideas there. In particular is the center thread hole system used to ...

Re: Anyone been able to reach Isky Cams lately?

Many of us old school guys are "no phone number, no business. I also respect the business owners wishes, if they only communicate through e-mails, OK by me, I am still able to accomplish what I want to do with business owners who still have customer service and a phone number. I know the world...

Re: AFR O2 Sensor Location: Best Practice

You are not really WOT tuning to a specific magic WOT AFR.. You just need to know if the WOT AFR is safe. ( Not too lean). 11.5-12.5:1 AFR ish +/- Blower engines need a bit more WOT fuel to help cool the combustion chamber . You don't need to know the AFR at idle. At some RPM - throttle running pos...

Re: AFR O2 Sensor Location: Best Practice

If you use a "heated "O2 sensor, It does not need to be in the hottest spot on the pipe. If you want the sensor to read O2 content at idle and off idle part throttle then you need a long extenstion of exhaust pipe AFTER the sensor. If there is water injected in the exhaust stream I'd thin...

AFR O2 Sensor Location: Best Practice

Building twin marine 454s with B&M 420 blowers. Looking to get info on where to place the O2 sensors. Bosch data says: Use the hottest location. Angle sensor down 10° on horiz and 15° when vert facing down. Any reason for this? To shed condensation? What about the vertical position wanting 15° o...
