?
tNot in response to engine knock detection..
The ECM only retards the spark timing to stop knock.

Re: AMC 401 Intake Manifold MPG

Stock AMC intake.. Mod the plenum and add a carb adapter to mount a pre 75 4mv type GM QJet. Keep the plenum fully divided but blend mod for a better transition. Carb adapter shound be divided too.. Check the diz curve and vacuum advance. You could try adding a full plenum divided to the torker. Als...

Re: Octane rating vs CR

No, correct timing makes more power..
Rerarded crutch tuning timing "De-Tuning" makes less power.. Give it the fuel it needs Give it yhe timing it wants and you'll go faster and for a lot longer.

Re: Octane rating vs CR

When you run the high CR Corvette motors on GT98 unleaded they do not need to retard the timing and MAKE FULL RATED HORSEPOWER and go faster.. You tune alot of EFI engines? Have the dyno data to back it up? The pro teams that do race these cars with 11:1 and north of fill the tank with GT98 or GT10...

Re: Octane rating vs CR

I don't have a hate against high compression nor premimun pump gas... I do have an issue with ignorance and incompanence reguarding combining excessive high CR with fuel that lacks the octane performance to protect that expensive engine from knock damage.. Running around with retarded timing is a cr...

Re: Octane rating vs CR

the ECM retarded timing more often than not under normal driving conditions.

Does a old school carbed engine have that?

Re: Tunnel rammed 23* 421sbc

The cam duration is 20 deg too short for max power on this engine.. It will run with your cam but you are leaving a lot on the table. Tunnel Rammed engines like to eat. Let it eat. Use 100 octane unleaded . It will go faster and last longer too.. Ha has a tunnel ram. The smaller cam will make more ...

Re: Why so rich on first drive of the day?

Lock the mechanical adv out 35 deg fixed.. Then as said try full vac on the vac adv and play with rate . Give it what it wants. A dual plane (can be Mopar dual quad ) will run SOMuch BETTER. There is not a carbed engine made that does not benefit from under carb plenum heat. A 750 HP carb (820 cfm) ...

Cannot read the cam card. Keep your expectations modest/real with factory Poncho intake and ex castings..
It is what it is.

You keep this up, we going to name you "The Carb Whisperer".. When you done fixing this Holley you can get back to finishing the job on that Edelbrock carb.

Re: Offenhauser intake manifolds

The Offy intakes with short intake runner lengths "anti tuned" (eg: the 2x qjets dual quad single plane manifold) design will want very high compression ratios and favour camshafts with specific valve open close events to max cylinder filling. Could be best siited for blow thru supercharged applicat...

Re: Pick a head, any head.

If it's a 750 Avenger there is no reference tube in the pri side just a hole and those carbs are notorious for sec side not opening all the way or at all. Like I said in my other post I have fixed a bunch of them last winter and just tested the 770 at the track and it now preforms as well as my 750...
