Re: Resonator placement

My 3rd Gen Firebird was much like this except both tail pipes exited side by side, on the drivers side, at the back. Makes the exhaust sound "mono" instead of "in stereo". Further tames the apparant volume to others on the street. Including the local fuzz. My mufflers were custom...

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice

Post a picture of the front of this car. What scoop? How tall?
I was undeer the impression this was a 1970 1/2 Camaro car with a flat stock hood.

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice

I would rather have an original GM tall cast iron 65-66 325/360HP 396 or 66 390HP 427 QJet intake than any of those. I had both of those OEM tall dual plane cast intakes 65-66 396 350HP and the tall Qjet version on my LS5 454 BBC. (with LS6 solid lifter camshaft added. The both JUST FIT under that ...

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice

I would not discount using a (well dialed in) QJET carb VS a holley carb on this engine in this car. There are lots of advantages.

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice

On all these intakes, if great driviability and throttle response is a critical element, Then you want to employ manifold plenum exhaust heat. The AMOUNT of HEAT ( exhaust flow under across the plenum floor) has to be tuned for each intake manifold. You tue that by restricting the heat riser flow at...

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice

With all the money you have spent collecting intake manifolds you could have bought a steel or fiberglass Camaro cowl induction hood and painted it. You could now test all these intakes on the car , with the hood off. Find the one with the sweet spot. On that single plane it will benefit from a plen...

Re: tunnel ram carb talk

The late Joe Sherman told me re: tunnel rams that if the carbs are big you want the plenum box height lower to the runners. If the carbs are "smaller" you want the carbs higher up over the runners. Carb height (and plenum box volume) matter.

Re: tunnel ram carb talk

I'd try the carbs you have and measure intake manifold vacuum at WOT when crossing the stripe.

This is still a bracket racing car right? It won't make you any more money, and the girls will love you just the same.

I would have gone supercharged at the this point. (on methanol).

Re: Cooling tricks with iron headed hot rods?

Make sure that the chin spoiler is intact. It is essentisl. If your intake manifold has those 2 extra rear water ports back near the diz connect the drivers left side water port to the water outlet on the top os the water pump. VS the stock way they are connected. This helps stablize the thrermostst...

Re: Resonator placement

Mufflers don't cause drone noise. Bad design muffiers fails to suppress exhaust drone noise. Lack of tail pipes allow the floor pan to resonate driven by the exhaust sound . Exhaust exit under car is a real bad idea in more ways than one. Net car performance will increase and drone will be eliminate...

Re: Resonator placement

Drone is not caused by baffles in the muffler. Drone is caused when the sound at a specific frequency (engine running speed) excites, vibrates (resonates) the underbody floor pan. Amplified by dual exhaust with same pipe length and muffler position. Especially when the exhaust exits under body. Lack ...

Re: Resonator placement

Change the mufflers. dynomax super turbos are not bad. Add tail pipes, exit at bumper or behind rear wheels.
