Re: 95 RON standardized as new high octane?

The next big lie is that electric cars will be cheap to operate or own... Not once they get beyond fringe status and the car or the electricity or the miles driven on streets and highways gets "road taxed"... Gasoline may be used less, maybe a lot less but the fleet "ROAD TAX" will not decrease. 2. ...

Re: 95 RON standardized as new high octane?

Fuel with ethanol in it INCREASES FUEL CONSUMPTION. you have to buy MORE OF IT. Vehicles that operate on 91 octane gas are no more fuel efficient than 87 octane fuel cars, If the 91 octane has ethanol in it, the fuel consumption per mile is HIGHER. That means you buy more. "performance" has nothing ...

Re: Cooling fan shootout - Engine Masters

The power problem is not in turning the fan or water pump, or power steering pump, its turning these @7000 rpm thats the problem.

Re: 95 RON standardized as new high octane?

If more) Ethanol is the method of increasing the fuel octane your fuel consumption will INCREASE. That means you have to buy more fuel per mile driven. That means more fuel volume has to be produced and delivered... More costs more and burning more creates more exhaust polution volume output of the ...

Re: Water/meth injection on a high compression engine

If you had 3x2 carbs instead of a single 4 bbl carb the center primary carb could run on pump gas and the 2 outer 2 bbl "secondary" carbs could run on high octane gas. Could be race gas or E85 or Ethanol or Methanol fuel or a blend of water + either of thesThe engine would idle and run at part throt...

Re: 95 RON standardized as new high octane?

Likely it involves (further) increasing the Ethanol content of pump gas.. The Ethanol (CORN) lobby is very strong.

Its not very net "green" . nor energy efficient overall.

Re: Flat tappet cams and zinc

Not how the zinc works but if when the crown wears off the lifter it will no longer spin.

Kind of a chicken or egg thingy.

Re: Cooling fan shootout - Engine Masters

The faster you spin the fan above what the oem stock design intended rpm range is, the more and more power the fan will absorb.. @ 7000+ rpm it eats a lot of power. As does the water pump, alternator and power steering pump.

A solid cam racey sbc wants to rev up up... The fan and accessories don't..

Re: 2" spacer....waste of time/$$??

Before you invest your hard earned money consider making up home made test carb spacers that you can stack up and test for effect.. Old 1/2" old 5/8" partical board, cabinet board , plywood. On a dual plane consider trying a combo divided spacer where the deep side of the plenum gets 2 holes and the...

Re: Building an 11 second 70's nostalgic SBC

Get the 7 blade GM clutch fan and the flat rib belt alt WP crank pulley set from a 3rd gen carbed 305 . or gm truck. Be sure the chin spoiler under the rad support is there. Note the car weight of Vortecpro's 66/67 Chevy II.l. These were very desirable for a fast sbc street racer back in the day. St...
