Re: Resonator placement

Mufflers don't cause drone noise. Bad design muffiers fails to suppress exhaust drone noise. Lack of tail pipes allow the floor pan to resonate driven by the exhaust sound . Exhaust exit under car is a real bad idea in more ways than one. Net car performance will increase and drone will be eliminate...

Re: Resonator placement

Drone is not caused by baffles in the muffler. Drone is caused when the sound at a specific frequency (engine running speed) excites, vibrates (resonates) the underbody floor pan. Amplified by dual exhaust with same pipe length and muffler position. Especially when the exhaust exits under body. Lack ...

Re: dynamic compression street cam ( cont...)

According to your engine health measurment yardstick you could advance the cam you have now and it will improve
the "health".. Try it.

Re: Resonator placement

Change the mufflers. dynomax super turbos are not bad. Add tail pipes, exit at bumper or behind rear wheels.

Re: dynamic compression street cam ( cont...)

Evaluate the cam's suitability based on how the car will be used. "too big". for ????

Cranking compression is not bled off by valve overlap.

Re: l88 drop base

Yes Remove that breather tube as it hits the carb on many non OEM setups. There were various breather tube locations on the OEM applications over the years.. The carb's fuel bowm vent tubes need to be cut shorter and cut on an angle. Your carb throttle linkage cable bracket will need to be modified ...

No formula.. 45 years experience.
With your experience if he changed to aluminum heads what would the Octane requirements be then?
Just ignore him.. his experience is 45 years of regurgitated hearsay.
Hardly, fool.

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

If all it took was a later closing intake valve a Pro Stock racing engine would run on 87 octane gas. It doesn't. Your engine is going to want 100 R+M/2 octane gas. For street use on a pump gas retard the timing as required to avoid detonation. 4-6-8 deg as needed. Water/methanol injection does won...

Check the carb flange for flatness first.

Re: Leftovers/junk 388 SBC

This would be a good test engine to examine DV's 128 cam LSA formula. Couple cam swaps. Also interesting to see what a high rise dual plane (rpm air gap) does on this one. Question is: Does a calculated 105 deg LSA cam work better than this 108 LSA cam? Can you get most of the way there by adjustin...

Re: Leftovers/junk 388 SBC

In your dyno tests on this engine with a locked out HEI diz what ignition timing setting created the most torque. What ignition timing setting created the most HP?
How much difference?

Can you get most of the way there by adjusting the 108 LSA cam intalled position and lash setting"
