Re: tunnel ram carb talk

Welcome to sloth talk, Home of the 5/64 ring iron headed 1957 tech. Here we will beat to death 1.94 or 2.02 valves. Highly discuss my 2" flow master ex, is it too much ? Oh hell yes! Where the whole board reads articles all day and hashes out what they haven't tried but are some how deemed expe...

Re: tunnel ram carb talk

Oooh nooo, 4 circuit 850s and 5 or 6 circuit Doms. Don't be shy. the new electric wrenches make changing plugs so easy We have no problem with 3 circuit 4150s and 4 circuit doms. If we didn't make more power with them we wouldn't use them! When I worked with prostock carbs not a single set was 2 ci...

Re: tunnel ram carb talk

You would gain with 850s but not for money spent. You would Def be happy with a pair of doms and see better improvement. I went through same thing with 900 plus hp sbc. Braswell told me when I went from 865 hp to the 935 setup that his 850s would still do the job. I ran it 3 times, about 7 passes. ...

Re: Dry Sump Scavenge Plumbing

Our high school neighborhood kid who works for us is stepping up this yr. He built up old Nova we have and will be getting 960hp sbc this season. I help him make decisions but we pretty much cut him loose. We had this on scales and it will help this one having oil tank on passenger side. We are goin...

Re: Dry Sump Scavenge Plumbing

In a sprintcar or Nascar deal as Warp stated, left side has its advantages. In drag race I scale car first before I decide. More times than not some right side engine weight helps offset driver weight. Always things to look at.

Re: Sbc Dart SHP rear main leaks

^^^^ That's fine if dimensions wrong and that is needed but again measure the area and know what the problem is, don't guess. That's why he is having problems because he is guessing or blindly hoping. Rear main seal is not 5 min fix if you guess wrong!! This stuff ain't rocket science but allot of y...

Re: Dry Sump Scavenge Plumbing

Pic for reference. I run all mine into pan here. I always have more kickout and fittings on my own stuff. Makes lines short and simple. If running msd type crank trigger you would have to get a little creative.

Re: Dry Sump Scavenge Plumbing

It's all been done 100s of ways. It all works. I'm never a fan of fittings and lines, under the pan. Simple basics are shortest hose possible with least bend in fittings. I try to use 45s everywhere possible. That being said 120 deg well made fitting still flows decent. Your first pic makes more sen...

Re: Sbc Dart SHP rear main leaks

There is a different seal for this block. had the same issue and my engine builder replaced the seal with the correct one and no leaks. Standard GM seal work. Don't know the part number but the GM seal was blue and the seal that works is red if memory serves correct. This is a 400 block Mine is the...

Re: Sbc shaft rocker arms, how much side to side play is normal?

I think that's all you can do or maybe do 1 int and 1 ex and monitor those for a few miles, inspect for rubbing ,coloring etc. I'm not sure if you can just replace 2 if prob occurs.if good to go, do all and then see what that does for noise?

Re: Sbc Dart SHP rear main leaks

Is the measurement where seal rides correct? Giving correct amount of crush? I have saw couple blocks where tolerance was on big side .003 near parting line and .0045 in center. As that don't look terrible when on engine stand , it will be even worse hot. I have fixed several blocks after guys cut c...

Bill Chase
I did quick inet look and Scorpion has a tech line. It might be worth giving them a shout and get their opinion. I would think they should be close to the .0025 -.0035 each way I'm seeing with T&D stuff I have here.

Re: Sbc shaft rocker arms, how much side to side play is normal?

I'm pre maching a engine for assembly now. My T&D stuff is .005- .007 total. So pretty limited per side. Some of cheaper stuff I have saw bind if you try and run them this tight. There are numbers of reasons that cause this. Oil types etc lead to what clearances you can get by with.if geometry is...
