Re: Resonator placement

A pal has a BBCwith a 6-71 in a '66 Nova. With 3" flomaggots and tail pipes exit out the side it had unbearable drone and was obnoxiously loud, 100+dB. He fabbed 3" pipes behind the flomasters and through the 4 link and over the Dana 60 to one of these under the trunk/fuel cell located wit...

Re: Question for Tuner

These theses at MIT are available to read for free. There are other universities that will allow you to read engineering theses at no charge. If you check out the citations you can drill down and explore topics. However, one large limitation is your budget. Many references have a paywall, like SAE....

Re: Question for Tuner

A member has kindly sent me the Fed Mogul manual, which describes this hole. It is an air bleed, purpose of which is to smooth the transition from the low to the high speed cct & improve part throttle economy. So then, what does it actually do to accomplish this? As I recall that F/M manual is ...

Re: Question for Tuner

In the Holleys it is a hole in the top of the booster leg midway between the booster and the carb body, similar location as the hole in the bottom of the leg in the Carters you refer to, so it serves the same purpose, but without the effect of impact flow. I don't recall seeing this bleed on any oth...

Re: Leaning cruise on Quick Fuel 850

Because it is the easiest thing to do and un-do, I would change to a smaller main air bleed. Then, if that does not have the desired effect, go inside the carb and make changes. Drop the primary jet makes sense, but don't change the PVCR until you drive it and see how much the jet change affects the...

Re: Leaning cruise on Quick Fuel 850

This is in a throttle range where float level has significant effect, so maybe down a flat or two on the adjusting nut ?? have you tried this? However, it sounds like a smaller main jet is the logical thing to do. This area of load and throttle position is where the main nozzle starts and overlaps t...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

Tuner, I'm interested in how you got this slope, "20 at 2000 with a slope to 26 at 6000". What kind of springs did you use for that or what tricks were involved? First things first, the way to do this is get on a dyno and in 500 or 1000 RPM steady state steps, find the timing for best tor...

Re: Question for Tuner

What would you say is the purpose of the bleed in the top side of the cast integral in the body straight booster leg in some late '60s and early '70s Mopar Holleys?

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

Save the thick gaskets for a last resort. Don't use studs and you can change them in the car if you get that desperate. I would much rather have tight quench and deal with the advance curve. Use a 1/4" thick gasket and run it on kerosene. Thick gasket tricks bring the necessity for correct pus...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

Another possibility is if E-85 is available to you it will easily tolerate high compression ratio. No matter what you do, fast burn heads of any sort, Ford or GM or ?, all respond very favorably to advance curves that are on the sweet spot all the way from lowest to highest RPM, and this may require...

Re: Willys Flathead Idle Timing

The post above is spot on in every aspect. I don't know about the Hurricane engine, but Hudson Hornet and some early Flathead Ford engines and a '51 Packard straight eight I recently repaired a distributor for only use about 17 degrees total. Some flatheads use near 25, but any flathead with the que...

Re: Leaning cruise on Quick Fuel 850

What size is the main air bleed? A smaller main air bleed will delay the start of the main some and it will have less overlap on the T-slot. Are you using a vacuum gauge? What is the RPM and manifold vacuum in the range you want to be leaner? Are you saying it is acceptably lean in the light throttl...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

IMG_0410.jpeg These are the n351 heads on a 4.100 stroke Windsor. I bought the heads used and never poured the chambers until recently, after I invested in the offset shaft rockers and custom header etc. They were supposed to be 64cc but apparently they got cleaned up a little too much. :? I would ...

Re: Ford Y Block ANGLE MILLED race heads

This sort of answered the ECZ-G 5752 casting marks question, except I think in the backwhen days I saw original unmolested '57 312s and 292s with 5752 heads. Perhaps not and I simply noticed they have the same valve size. Been a long time.
