Re: carburettor cleaning
A separate but, related question that I have is, is there anything, in conjunction with ultrasound that has been used, successfully, to free stuck throttle shafts. I have a 6 gallon tank and use a heavy duty industrial cleaner in it at about 4/1. I soaked a 4412 and a 550 cfm Holley in it, for 3 hr...

Re: carburettor cleaning
Any small parts I clean are put into a 3 quart sonic cleaner. About 1 cup of white vinegar, fill the rest with water. I use heat setting. It is just hot enough that I can't hold the parts in my bare hands when done. Do not put acid in ultrasonic cleaners. Acids will etch, eat, dissolve, etc, the st...

Re: Classic Rivals Dyno Contest Needs A Ford Competitor
The person who was going to fill the Ford spot has had to back-out. We are looking for someone to fill this role. We also want to nail down a date for this October. The rules are on the web page RaceEngineChallenge.com. This contest is going to have one SBC, one SBF and one SBM. Maybe someday if th...

Re: Voltage to ignition coil
The cable from the ignition coil to the ignitor is spliced to about twice the length with the same area as the original cable. I haven't noticed any difference with second strike from zero degrees (off) to max. On the other hand, the rpm limiter works perfectly. Of course, it's fun when the test la...

Re: Voltage to ignition coil
How long is the wire from the minus on the coil to the Ignitor 2 ? If it is only a few inches the wire supplied attached to the Ignitor 2 is large enough. The improvement on the positive side is accomplished because the larger wire direct to the coil eliminates several feet of wire in a primary igni...

Re: Carb Tuning: IAB and Transition
Best way to find out is change it yourself and see what happens. Keep notes so you don't lose track of what size bleed or jet does/did/might do whatever.

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
Thanks “Tuner” for mentioning the piss holes. The too large piss holes started showing up about 30 years ago, maybe a few years before that and in 90% of the cases when a carb has piss holes bigger than .020" or .021" that is the single reason responsible for this rich A/F in the higher R...

Re: Maybe time to increase our shop hourly
In 1973 a pal and I raised our shop rate from $35 to $50 an hour. The local Chev dealer was getting $45 and sending us diagnosis and drivability problems with the new emission controls they couldn't figure out. That $50 in 1973 is $350 in today's money.

Re: Rich 3000 rpm cruise
Well, I did what tuner said. Cleaned up the secondary valve edges and closed them tight. Closed off the secondary idle mixture screws and ran off the front ones. The engine did not like it. Gave me a stumble at secondary opening onset. Ran very weird. For giggles, I did the usual. I opened them the...

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice
I vote for the Weiand for two reasons. It fits and has a larger exhaust heated area under the plenum.

Re: Jay Leno -- It's a Dusie!
Year late and a dollar short, but I never knew the Dusenberg used quarter-speed cams. Now we know where Bus Schaller got his inspiration. If you are referring to the drawing of the Dusenberg head, look closer, the lobes are described as for cylinders 180 cam degrees, 360 crank degrees, from each ot...

Re: big chevy dual plane intake manifold choice
The Weiand could be a better manifold for a cool climate due to the larger exhaust heat chamber under the plenum . well im over in the uk - would use summit - are the jet quadrajets any good? or do I need an original? If I were to try one I would rather an original unmodified QJet than any from mail...
