Re: Before sending rods out to get heat treated

The melting point of graphite is over 6,000° F.; that should handle it... If the heat treating involves heating and quenching to increase hardness and strength, I'm not sure coating the threads in carbon (graphite) is a wise idea. You are effectively carburizing the threads and making them more bri...

Re: 4.8 gmc parts in oil

found a .240x.060 roller bearing in my oil today any ideas on what it is from Most likely a rocker arm trunnion bearing roller (needle). If a number of the needles are missing from one rocker arm you can usually find the bad on by wiggling it. If it's only one rocker arm replacing one from GM isn't...

Re: 351W vacuum rule dirt track cam

I agree with Dave, but there can be problems. If most of you band together so there is no show if you boycott, it might work. If there is another nearby track without the vacuum rule where you can run, that's a big plus for your side, and may get the track guy's attention. Question: are the gear rul...

Re: does chrome have any ET value? anywhere?

In the immortal words of my screen namesake, Stroker McGurk: "If it don't go, Chrome it!" Stroker also had advice on cam selection: "If some is good, more is better and too much is just enough." Another quote often attributed to McGurk is profound: "Speed costs money; how fa...

Re: Troubles with slow UPS deliverys?

I shipped a set of BBC heads with FedEx. They came up missing. Long story short, a FedEx employee stole them. Physically went in the computer and changed the shipping weight and insured amount. I sent two boxes, heads taped together and hardware. They found the hardware, it was sent back. Before al...

Re: Troubles with slow UPS deliverys?

I ship UPS daily and have not see the ground delays, except for the flooded Mississippi areas. I suggest you track your inbound packages. Have your supplier add your email address to his online shipping. Have him check "ship" and "exception". Fuel prices are driving some of the a...

Re: Godspeed Danny Miller

Like many of you I was fortunate enough to share ideas with Danny via PM and email. It was always a pleasure to converse with him about EMC, flat cranks, intakes, valvegear, etc. I am a year older than Danny, and it is so refreshing to see someone our age with an open mind about engines. The younger...

Re: Anything to learn from the 572/720?

Rich, I believe it's a 4.56 bore with a 4.375 stroke for 572 cubes. The Vortec 8100 (496 cube) production engine has a 111m (3.700) stroke. Perhaps most of the 8100 production crankshaft machining and grinding tooling could be used for the 572 crank. If the block castings are at all similar in the c...

Re: 4412 Circle Track Jetting

Spend about $500 & purchase a F.A.S.T dual/wide-band O2 sensor system, with the rpm module. One sensor on each side of the engine. Allows real-time monitor on the race track, or 'playback' post-practice/race while sitting in the pits & downing a Pepsi. No external computer required. Will mi...

Re: 5/16 vs 3/8 pushrods sbc 2bbl engine

i've got a small problem with my latest 2bbl motor. i've decided to start running higher rocker ratios above what i was currently using..went from 1.65 and 1.7 to 1.8's. with this change and an aggressive 2bbl grind i decided to switch to 3/8 pushrods. problem is they dont seem to fit well. i have ...
