Re: Are David vizard’s books still relevant today?

knowledge is a tool.. i dont think that ever goes out of relevance. sometimes your tool box is so full that you reach for a large handled screw driver to tap a thumb tack into the wall .. because it was easier to grasp hastily than the ball peen hammer buried in the bottom shelf. bystanders then hav...

Re: Plug read

looks like oil consumption. id say put more timing in it.. but with the oil burning it might get into detination. especially if the top of your pistons and valves look like the plugs look x2 on going to a hotter range plug. i like to put a fresh plug in cyl #1 and cyl #4 , one in front bank and one ...

Re: fire ring on head gaskets hang over into cyl bore

if one head went forward and one head went back 30 thou... what about intake alignment... wouldn't getting a larger bore gasket be an easier fix... Its just my opinion, I just have never seen something machined that far off from the factory..... then again I try to stay away from mopars [-o< if you...

Re: fire ring on head gaskets hang over into cyl bore

any advice on installing the offset pins.? I see there is a flat slot to turn them with a screw driver but in my experience those suckers are tight.. cant image they will move once set all the way in the block. i suppose ill use the head gasket to line up or move the pins. center the gasket properly...

Re: fire ring on head gaskets hang over into cyl bore

i cant leave it like this because my pistons stick out of the hole at the top quench side. and would hit or pinch the head gasket with this newer smaller fire ring. the old head gasket was 4.130 fire ring. the new gasket fire ring is 4.04 . so the old gasket was large enough not to interfere. Howeve...

Re: fire ring on head gaskets hang over into cyl bore

specs say same as smallblock chevy at .316 diameter dowels.
they are showing 30* offset .. so that would be .030" correct.

fire ring on head gaskets hang over into cyl bore

guys i am trying to fit new Cometic mls head gaskets onto my small block mopar. The fire ring hangs over into the cyl on the top off all 4 bores on the block. it worse on the drivers side. the gaskets line up centered over the cylinder heads so technically the heads are or would be installed off cent...

cleaning up distribution on a tunnel ram

Gents..its been a while.. looking for some real world recomendations for cleaning up the deviders and the floor of a weiand 2x4 tunnel ram... its for a smallblock mopar..but the plenum floor and transitions should be similar enough to be relavant. its got some casting flash..and some blemishes in th...

I was doing some more thinking... Since i am an avid Mopar guy. My reference towards v8 engine internals are relative to what mopar engines are made of. Most of these engines have long rod ratio's at least in a stock perspective..and we also see alot of piston tdc Dwell. the fast burn stuff of late ...

Cheapstreetduster, Are you sure those cupped marks in the sand did not come from a paddle tire? Just curious. no it looked like a street tire ... it was in the damp, flat ...very smooth sand that you see close to the shore line... at the time....it was very revealing ....inlightening... i caused a l...

i know for instance valve stems are filled with sodium I also had some discussion based on the dampening ability of materials that could be used/inserted in a hollow valve stem.. mass is a crutial issue... the spring pressures are outragous... i can definately see closing the gap between the average...

actually i might think to some aspects ,,, friction might be less...at higher rpms.. parastectic losses ? may be greater for sure.... "object in motion stays in motion" vrs "equal and apposing forces/reaction.."? mean losses.. however i can see how part failures , as a greater li...
