Re: Need some SBC Dragster advice.....

Ran a 406 with a set of Weld-Tech "Hut 1.1" 18* heads, 14.5 to 1 compression, Lunati 280-291@50, nothing special, 4.90's all day long. Better weather and it would dip into the 80's, real good, easy engine. Would also agree with Mark on the tires, our little engine did not like pulling that...

I think the Edelbrock 2995 would work for you. It has a cross section of 2.85. I do not know if a larger cross section would help given the parameters of what you are wanting. Should make the 700 hp with no problem. One question......why only 12.5 to 1 compression? Could stand another 1 to 1.5 more ...

Carb

Just a question....if the 750 dp carb worked well then would a 750 vac secondary work even better.Properly tuned it should help increase fuel economy while not giving up anything in the power department.

This thread brings back the memories of dealings with the late great Kenny Weld. I learned alot from Kenny and he really made me think about the total package as far as the engine is concerned. And I can remember the night not too long ago of not being able to sleep when I read a post/reply by Curti...

Depends on alot of factors. You must decide what you can live with on the street if you also want a strong runner at the track. What are your goals? TORQUE rules on the street for daily driving. But once again you need to have your objectives in order and set out on a well thought out plan to bring ...

Heads???

I see folks refering to having all kinds of heads for a killer set up like this, but you can bet your spark plugs that the intake manifold will be the key in bringing this whole deal together.
Joe was right, gonna need some deep pockets!!!

In the Super Flow SF-600 manual, there is NO reference made to absolute numbers. But there is a reference made as to a HP POTENTIAL from airflow. You will need to remember that this is a rudimentary equation nothing more: ?CFMx.257x8=hp potential. (cfm@28"). There are lots of parameters that are ...

I would have to agree totally with John W. I did the same thing, no more problems. Its bad enough to have a problem when you KNOW you have made a change, its even worse when you don't know what caused the problem.
You won't go wrong with the filter.

Be sure and keep us posted on your valve springs.

So from all of the replys posted on this subject here, there really is no answer. It would be the same as asking which is faster Chevy,Ford,Mopar, etc. Its all about the combination and the application. Big bore/short stroke, long rod/short rod, torque/hp. These are all subjects that have been debated...
