We have been running E-85/E-90 for the last several years and have hundreds of dyno runs on many different engines. we have never found an engine that liked the timing any different than what produced max power on race gas or 93 octane for low comp ratio engines. Bill

we use Helium instead of Argon or mix. it transfers heat much quicker and you dont need to pre heat the head. use it on AC. 250 amps will penetrate .225 thick in a few seconds. Bill

The spray weld does not sit on top of the parent metal, when done rite it mixes and is as strong as the base metal. using the correct metal to spray makes the job very easy to machine. we haven't done mains but do heads and manifolds as well as deck surface with no problems.Bill

I haven't seen a set of those heads but why couldn't you mill the pedestal's down .800 then machine a .800 thick x 1.00 wide aluminum bar to get the stud back in the correct location, drill & tap the heads for 7/16 and use ARP rocker studs #235-7203 which has 1.650 long threads on the head side.s...

We are getting 640 with 215 iron eagles angle milled .385,flat top pistons 4.197 bore 3.210 stroke, roller cam 39 lb crank 520 gm. rods. This is a circle track combination with a power band from 5000 to 9200. I would think it would possible to get 630 with a small bore long stroke engine with a drag...

Re: Headers

I came from the machine shop today, pistons were worn out at the wrist pins, so installing new pistons/rings. (flat top 2 eye brow) Bore looked ok, just a hone.

If the pistons measure ok at the skirts just install oversize wrist pins.Bill

Make sure you don't have 2bbl pistons in your engine before trying the 4bbl. most 2bbl pistons are only rated to 400 H.P. Just had a customer make that mistake and locked up all 8 top rings. there to close to the top of the piston to make 4bbl power.Bill

The fuel is still burning when the ex valve opens, every time we go rich the EGT increases. When you get past around 13.5-1/ 14.0-1 A.F. it cools down because there isn't any fuel burning when the valve opens.
We have seen this situation on hundreds of engines we have dyno tested over the years. Bill

The MSD isn't a hard limiter, when you reach the chip rpm it cuts out every other spark but never the same cyl in a row,it hits hard limit around 200 rpm beyond the soft limit and all spark is cut off. try a 5000 rpm chip in your motor and go wide open from around 3000 you will see the results. Bill

In our experience an engine thats turned loose by a broken drive shaft at close to peak power will over run the rev limiter by around 200 rpm. thats based on an 844 H.P. circle track engine. Bill

We along with most circle track engine builders use the longer rods to cut weight out of the pistons and it does result in more power past peak power. Not sure if its the speed change as much as weight. Look on page 13 in the ARP book, they have a chart showing the load against a rod cap at various r...

Dirt late models especially the crate engine variety spend a lot of time on the rev limiter with absolutely no problems. Bill
