i dont use oiled ones but i use aem dryflow filters. they work great in dusty,muddy,wet conditions and are easy to clean

i had same issue with Valvoline VR-1 20W-50 in my hyd roller BBC changed to mobil1 5w-50 and no issues.

my pro billet cap button woreout fast too. fixed it By taking carbon button from some cap i had laying around, it had spring behind the carbon button. drilled msd one out and matced hole size like it was in other cap. now it has no wear at all with same amount hours the msd was shot http://forums.of...

yes from o2 sensors.
during the pull o2 sensor readings started to climb to lean side and then it was fastly of the charts.
could the air flowing too fast thru the cleaner housing tubes make the carb go nuts?

update to this. had the engine in dyno and air cleaner system totally didnt work. we tuned the engine before testing this air cleaner housing. we started to make dyno pull and it suddenly whent to Super lean and operator stopped the pull. took the filter out of the housing and tested again and same ...

Yours looks pretty good; 3" is maybe a little small for 800 HP, but should not be a big issue. A simple test is to run without it, although there can't be too much restriction or it would be going rich up top. The proper contour to the top and bottom can have quite an effect; I assume yours is...
