Re: Crank part #

DUHH! Once I put my glasses on, I can see that it is a Callies. Never mind... What I thought was a stamped in part# was in fact the serial number. I am not as smart as I used to be!

Crank part #

Cleaning out the closet the other day and found a SBC 3.5 stroke crank. I believe it has been hiding since we went to a big bore short stroke set up twenty plus years ago. I seem to think it was a Callies crank. But not sure. Numbers on the front counterweight are 34232 and below that 3500. Counterw...

Hoosier 1070?

Due to material shortages our local oval track has decided that we will be running the Hoosier 1070 instead of the normal 3035 and 3045s for the upcoming big track shows. After 20 yrs of running the 30 series tires I think I have them figured out, ( Stagger changes, pressures etc.) Has anyone made t...

Carter fuel pump diaphragm springs

SBC Old CV products pump. AN -8 inlet and outlet. Currently puts out 9psi. That worked ok with a Holley HP. But rules changes require change to a new carb. Pressure is forcing fuel past the needles and seats and flooding out the engine. I have looked around and see that there are different diaphragm...

Re: rocker stud breaking

Rocker studs breaking with roller rockers, can often be traced to the rocker arm roller tip running off the end of the valve. Shorten the pushrods to avoid this.

Re: Plenum fuel injection for reduced IATs?

I don't remember when exactly, but at Indianapolis an additional injector was used just downstream of the turbo to cool the intake charge. I believe it was only used for qualifying. I seem to recall that it was outlawed shortly thereafter.

Re: Vaccum pump Mainseal damage

We have always run double lipped seals on our dry sumped motors. Available from Peterson I believe or CV products. Been years since I built one, but those were the sources then.

Re: 4.3 SOLID ROLLER CAM v6

Some of my blown up stuff was as thin as .065 at the bottom of the cylinder walls with a bore of 4.030. The 4.3 used a 2.25 crankpin and a narrower connecting rod than other chevy stuff. The 4.3 connecting rod is unique to the 4.3. Good luck!

Re: 4.3 SOLID ROLLER CAM v6

You had better have a Bowtie block, or sonic test the hell out of it. Went thru 4 blocks before I learned my lesson back in the eighties. I used Ultradyne cams back then. still do!

Not a Ford Guy SLM question

Looking for advice. Rules allow a Sealed engine alliance motor or a brodix spec headed motor, or untouched cast iron head. Anything else must run a 390 cfm carb. Can a ford spec headed motor make the same or more power than the Hamner or McGunegill sealed motors? (600 HP) Ford motors get an addition...

Re: 1966 Corvette frame question

I have personally repaired dozens of corvette frames in just the manner you described. I like to leave an eighth inch gap between the frame and the replacement piece, and just fill it with weld. I have not noticed any tendency to pull the metal when welding on a steel frame. Aluminum frames are anot...
