Re: 4.3 V6 build

That take about 450 hp , I'm not sure how an oem 4.3 crank would live with a trans brake.

Re: 4.3 V6 build

It depends on what kind of power you want to make. 4.3 Cast cranks are good for about 6200, 6500 MAX. The GMC Cyclone cranks are forged but I think they are common pin odd fire. The later vortec heads are very good and you can get the Edelbrock manifold to fit them on "non" counter balancer blocks. ...

Re: Lowering exh rocker ratio.

The 18* Chevy head liked shorter exhaust duration in a comp eliminator engine I ran. Maropoluos said the head was too good on the exhaust side and was over scavenging , so the shorter duration compensated. The problem with the GM 18deg head, wasn't that the exhaust was too good. The issue was the c...

Re: Lowering exh rocker ratio.

It doesn't seem that strange, I've never really seen any power gain running extra exhaust duration when running headers only, no tailpipes. I know many grinders like to do it but all I usually see is a loss in the mid range and extended over rev, but no real power gain. With tail pipes or long colle...

Re: Lowering exh rocker ratio.

It tells you the engine could have been over scavenging, remember the end of the exhaust stroke i.e. start of the intake stroke (or overlap) is where the important things happen.
Engines with short exhaust systems can get pretty happy lowering the rocker ratio.

Re: Micro polishing engine and transmission internals

The biggest power gains will come from lowering the the viscosity of the oil. Back in 2009 it was a popular upgrade, polish all the gears, convert to ceramic bearings, and run low viscosity oil. The bikes did seem to perk up. Make sure the you inspect the parts well before sending them off. No reaso...

Re: Speed-Talk/Race Engine Challenge

Dyno's vary quite a bit. Preliminary test sights would have to be calibrated with the same mule engine to see what kind of variation there is.

Re: Let's play "Guess what's wrong"

Start from ground zero. Cut the filter apart, that will show if anything in the engine is going away. The things that come to mind are the oil pump bypass is stuck open, the oil pump pickup is loose or has a cracked weld, a piece of silicone/teflon tape is blocking the oil pressure sender, the gauge...

Re: What's a good CDI box value these days?

This discussion is good. For street and mild performance applications, Ford Duraspark and MSd distributors with an HEI module and a blaster II coil After a couple of their (Ready to Fail) distributors let us down MSD's analog 6A and 6AL stuff is great, still have a couple of them running. They do ma...

Re: Guys who CNC port

Sometimes too many options kill creativity. When your options are limited you'll keep going faster improving what you have, when you have a buffet of cylinder heads you will constantly be thinking the grass is greener and give up on what you have. Its like trying to find people who want to work when...

Re: Guys who CNC port

We have an Centroid A-532 in house. Most people who have these machines in house specialize in something specific, and got busy enough to need it. Unless your engine/head happens to be exactly what they specialize in, I bet they would have very little interest in it. We have a CNC porting machine in...

Re: How much swirl is too much swirl

I like the wet flow testing. The biggest thing we had a hard time with was filming. Trying to get the proper amount of light and camera angle and experimenting with length of bore and so on played big role, not mention figuring out what we were seeing was a whole other thing.
