Re: BBC for dirt track racing ,,

As long as you can achieve enough rear weight percentage. A lighter engine with more rear percentage is usually better. Sometimes a broad torque curve makes the car easier to drive for the new drivers in the lower classes (that don't allow quick change gearing).

Re: who all makes a hall effect ign systems

Magnetic pick-ups have a magnet in them. You can check them with a screwdriver (any piece of metal). MSD part # 8505 These will pick-up a gap in the flywheel, a metal stud or a piece of metal secured in an aluminum ring (old style crank trigger). Non-magnetic pick-ups do not have a magnet in them an...

Re: who all makes a hall effect ign systems

Prestolite, used on older (75) jeeps and IH scouts. Long out of business. Part Number: 3224964 It may not work with new stuff.

Re: Mag pickup/ reluctor ''timing''

As the magnetic field becomes more concentrated through the core of the pick-up coil a voltage is induced into the coil. The polarity is determined by the poles of the magnet in relation to the direction of the winding of the coil. The voltage is related to the rate of change of the concentration. A...

The short rod will cause romance between the piston and crank. Been there.

Re: MDS 6AL- Ground Wire...

I am curious as to where the box was getting its ground. Is the case connected to ground? I don't remember that connection inside the box. The coil - wire is connected to the black wire internally but this wire should only be used to ground the coil and not used to ground the box. While the average ...

Re: Ignition Theory and Comparisons

JeepHammer really likes to hammer his point. But I consider it mostly valid to the extent of calling this jeep a high performance race vehicle. One needs to consider the number of cylinders when describing the limits of an ignition system whether its inductive or multi-spark. 8 cyl. @ 4200 rpm = 6 c...

Re: MSD timing changes

The magnetic pick-up circuit on most MSD and most others are looking for a rise in voltage and (typically) trigger when that rise crosses over zero. The points circuit also looks for a rise in voltage but it also looks for the signal to rest at zero for a certain amount of time and will allow a trig...

So now I hope we have sent someone to Washington that will be good for our state and the country. Can one be good for both? I thought that to be good for the state meant one had to lie and steal from other states and not worry about what is good for the country. When it comes to bringing home bacon...

Too bad it's the secondary current that goes to the plug. With a 100:1 turns ratio coil the plug current would be .44 amps. But wait. 44 amps is not a discharge rate, it is a charge rate. With plug wire resistance and inductive reactance the plug current is much lower. Nothing like a arc welder. May...

Racing for pink slips

People talked about it. But i never saw, nor knew anyone that won or lost a car in a street race. (other than on TV)

Have any of you participated in or witnessed a (street)race where ownership papers (and possession) were handed over?

Why would a "Pink Slip Daddy" make you flip your lid?

I remember asking the hot rodders when I was a kid but I never got an answer except to ask someone from California. (35 years ago)

Pardon my ignorance. What is a "big slip daddy"?

Another Question, was the Super Stock Dodge an option available on most Dodges (like Super Sport for Chevy) or was it for a specific model like Z-28?

I don't think so. But my way of making that determination is not scientific. I go to the track and see what what is being used the most. And draw the conclusion of what is the best.

Some MSDs die but many are killed. Make sure your battery charger doesn't have a bad rectifier (diode). (It has less power than it used to.) Try not to use your battery charge in boost mode. If you must then clamp to the battery terminals and if possible use the other set of terminals on the battery...
