Depends on the valve, if it has a hardened insert no, if not yes, the latter with a cap is a better set up and less weight

Re: block heater

I have looked at the elements that bolt in place of a core plug, but I'm not too fond of the fit. What other options are available? I "think" I want a heater that will install inline the lower hose. NOTE, I have a #12 AN lower hose. For drag racing, you should be heating the oil and not t...

Re: Oil pump cavitation sounds

Bench testing i can force a pump into cavitation and you can hear it, , hold a piece of thin wood to a fan blade typo sound, i guess you could call it a growl, my pressure pick up is only 3 inches from the pump mount with a large gage it will sometimes spike before the pressure drops and raise the t...

Re: 062 Vortec Head Test a Success Car goes 10.92

Thats what happens when you dont put the typically recommended 220cc heads with 2.1 valves and 93% throats on your combo, your probably around 180-185 cc and shifting 6-6500, welcome to matching velocity needs to cubic consumption

Re: Exhaust lobes. Fast or slow?

I do not have the resources to spend on a dyno. I do use a few desk top dyno programs to help figure out trends or tendencies, I use dynomation and pipe pro 450. I have learned much from pipe pro, it set me straight many times. just recently started with dynomation. I run a wedge chambered Mopar BB...

Re: Intake valve lift at BDC

i wouldnt close the valve 80*abc on a 5000 rpm 350, but at 9500 rpm i would if the comp is right How do you feel compression affects point of IVC? To me it depends on how tuned in you are with your induction system, if your combo dosent fill well at BDC for the cube and rpm your not going to hurt i...

Re: Intake valve lift at BDC

Its a moving target, stroke , rod length, induction track csa, duration, rpm, lift plus others effect it, i wouldnt close the valve 80*abc on a 5000 rpm 350, but at 9500 rpm i would if the comp is right, there is still 66% of the stroke left and if your csa, velocity and a list of other variables li...
