Re: Brake shoe fitment

Brake shoe flex is pedal travel. Are you using a line lock? Also, if the brakes barely hold or actually don't hold the car staging, what are they doing in the top end? Yes, I use a line lock in the water only. The brakes hold until launch rpm gets to about 2700. They work fine at top end, but this ...

Re: Brake shoe fitment

How bad is the mess when using a machine sander or an endmill? I've got a mill/drill and a rotary vice that I'd need to make a fixture to hold the shoe, but I think I could mill or sand an arc. I'd have to do it in my basement and if the dust is massive, I'd rather not. I saw some videos of the sand...

Re: Brake shoe fitment

Thank you all for the ideas. I'm using Bendix shoes with AE4280-EE 10 on the side of the lining. I bought 2 sets and installed primary shoes on all 4 corners. It vibrated really bad when stopping so I went to the Class Racer forum and was told not to run 2 primary shoes in the front. I pulled one of...

Or do you want to buy the shoe arcing machine?
I have one for sale
I was thinking of doing it carefully by hand with a belt sander. Your machine is probably too expensive for my one time use.

Brake shoe fitment

I remember people talking about making their shoes fit their drums better, but I never knew how they did it. I have a drag car with drums all around and I have a hard time keeping the car from creeping out of the beams. I can see that only a small part of the shoe is making contact with the drum. Th...

Re: Hard Starting Question

Electric fuel pump with a Holley 750DP. I'm thinking the relief not seating also but why would that happen? Maybe some debris got in the bore or maybe the spring broke?? I had him pull a valve cover off after a couple weeks of not starting it and all valves were closed so it bleeds down and doesn't ...

Hard Starting Question

My buddy has a mild 9:1, 460 BBC, hydraulic flat tappet, MSD to an HEI. If the car sits for a week he cranks it for 15 seconds, pauses for 30 seconds, cranks for another 15-20, pauses to give the starter a break then cranks again and usually it starts. The first two crankings show no oil pressure on...

Re: 2 BBC rear main seal questions

Thanks Tom, It has been align bored and after that I had fretting issues so maybe they took a little off to get rid of marks left by the fretting. This leak is so minor that I'm tempted to let be. I just hate leaky stuff. If the problem is the seal not being round, I should be able to see that, right?

Re: 2 BBC rear main seal questions

It will depends on how flat the edges of the cap to block mating surfaces are. When I block prep a BBC I'am very careful not round these surfaces when deburring. At one time I had a employee prepping the blocks, we had a rash of leaks, I always put the seal in flush, I got rid of the employee and t...

2 BBC rear main seal questions

I have a very small leak that appears to be coming from the rear main. I pulled the engine out to weld in a couple bungs and think I should put a new seal in at the same time. Should I be concerned about the end play changing when I put the cap back on? Should I offset the 2 halves of the seal? I've...

Re: Brake line pressure

The shop installed a 13/16 MC and my buddy says it stops much better although he doesn't think it's 2,000 dollars better, lol. He still has to work on adjusting the valve to get the backs to lock up after the fronts and to be honest, I don't think he's done a panic stop yet to know if any lock up. I...

Re: Brake line pressure

Make sure he can lock up all 4 wheels before you call the brakes finished. That is when you have 100% of the stopping power you're supposed to have. The rears should take a little more pedal pressure to lock than the fronts....rear lock ups are harder to control so the proportioning valve is set ri...

Re: Brake line pressure

Here's the latest, with the valve all the way open the car stops much better but still not like normal. The owner of the shop said that Wilwood sent the wrong MC and that it was supposed to be 13/16.

Re: Brake line pressure

My friend called Wilwood and the tech told him he needed more front brake. I asked my friend if the tech knew which MC was on the car and he said the tech never asked and he didn't ask what brakes were on the rear. I asked my friend why he didn't tell the guy what he had and he said it never came up...

Re: Brake line pressure

He moved the rod up to the higher hole which works out to be about 6:1. He said it brakes better but isn't great and won't lock up the tires. I'm not sure about the angle of the rod but he confirmed that the bore of the MC is 1 1/16. He plans to call Wilwood on Monday.
