Re: Fox body 351w swap

I'm running a Mustang style H-pipe with my 427w. I first ran one with 1 3/4" swap shorties, then switched to RCI mid-length headers where I had to modify the H-pipe to work with them. For me the mid-length was the best compromise between the inconvenience of long tubes and lousy collector desig...

Re: Ignorant young racers...is there any hope?

Racers who work-on and actually make things for what they need to support their racer are not the norm today ... almost everywhere, it seems to be, "I can probably buy whatever I want". It used to be the innovators were common racers ... those days are long past. It is a shame, really. It...

Re: Ignorant young racers...is there any hope?

before I was 20 i figured how to drive a car with any possible malfunction without using the clutch - '69 GTO clutch pivot snapped (cheap white metal) - drove home 20 miles (at least 10 traffic lights) RPM matching shifts, never once had to push start it after initial push stuck in one gear - too m...

Damnit, they would be epic! As a mechanical engineer myself who designs magnetically coupled devices for a living, I've often fantasized over such devices. I just wanna know where the lithium batteries were hidden in that oversized "fan".

Re: Totalseal rings

I had bad luck with them, excessive oil passing into combustion. Buddy said he was gonna use them, I told him of my experience, but he tried them as well. Same outcome. You can dismiss our anecdotal experiences, but I believe they have higher odds of not sealing compared to conventional rings.

Re: The true definition of Testicular Fortitude

I watched the Isle of Man racing last time it was live, pretty amazing. Shortening the track made no difference to me since the race is 3 seconds long and they get to the same speeds faster, where I can FEEL the pressure waves rattling my heart/brain. But I'm only 20 miles from a National event, whi...

Re: The true definition of Testicular Fortitude

In a little over 100 years 149 riders killed at isle of man TT race, if you include some TT racing they stop doing a lot of years ago that number is 252 killed. When pro class drag racing went to 1000 ft racing because of scott kalitta' s death, have never went to a national event since then. Wont ...

Re: 2618 vs. 4032?

I don't mind you asking at all, and I wouldn't mind answering, but skirt design is a frightfully complicated subject. It used to be a world of cam and taper, and now it's a world of shapes. Even the thickness of the skirt comes into play. The change in skirt designs is like when we went from black ...

Re: Volumetric Efficiency

According to this article , VE is proportional to HP: VE = horsepower x 4235 / CID x rpm . . . and horsepower/rpm = torque Yes, Torque = HP*5252/RPM, so VE estimate (according to that article) using torque (at any given RPM) is: VE = ((TQ*RPM/5252)*4235)/(CID*RPM) or VE = (TQ * 0.806)/CID So the ar...

Pretty cool list. I remember what massive dogs most as delivered cars were and how few people actually knew how to make power on the street.

Re: 1960's engine wars

I remember a Hot Rod article from the late 70's where they modified a '69 GTO 400CI (cam/intake/carb/headers) and it ran a 12.4 sec 1/4 mile. Just thought it deserved a mention. With ladder bars and radials, my similarly modified goat was a terror, lifting front wheels on the street and cornered pre...

Re: Gapless Top Rings

... It's weird, even after 20k miles, the engines runs great, makes good power, really good MPG,cranking PSI still there with very/very low leakdown # (1-3%) Took it to the drag strip just for fun, ran 13 flat @ 118 mph in 3rd gear with street tires, car is 3750#'s at the line. BUT, since the start,...

Re: Back when we had a choice..MSD or Mallory ignition products??

Personally, if it was not a very high power race engine, I preferred the Accel stuff if you simply need a great ignition and not all the other electronic type switches and features in the later units from just about everybody.. The Accel 300+ was a perfect ignition for most anything like that ... n...
