Re: Edelbrock 2892.

I used the 2892 on my 434. I really like the intake on a big inch SBC. I'm not an expert about the AFR 227 heads you have or the CSA at the pinch in them so I'll leave it to Chad and the others that are. I didn't really do as much work to my 2892 as some people have.... I opened the plenum up for be...

Re: Toyota 5MGE chamber inquiry

It is already angled but there is still the flat quench area with the step machined down to the angled area. I personally would weld it up and angle the entire quench area to within a few thousands of the headgasket fire ring/sealing surface.... I would also soften and roll the machined "line&q...

Re: TRUE TRAC ON DIRT

I think your going to find out that the LS weight over 55% is going to be self defeating. Most everyone is using a soft RF with a lot of hike in the left rear, to promote rear steer to rotate the car and get bite on the LR for forward bite. Once you get your Percentages right, you fine tune with ra...

Re: TRUE TRAC ON DIRT

The Franklin QC my dad had in his Rayburn Late Model (in the late 1980's) had a Tru Trac diff in it... but you could lock it up with a "plug" and make it like a spool. The car wasn't anything odd that I remember.... Typical Late Model for the time with 2X3 frame rails, dual A-Arms/Coil Ove...

Re: Suggested Valve Spring Question..

I'd advise you to buy the better springs to start with. While what your wanting to do will work in a pinch.... 2 things I specifically do not like with that approach. 1. Stacking shims under a spring is not the best idea. Shims do move around under the valve spring. The more shims you have, the more...

Re: Sbc quench dilemma w/turbo

I guess I'm gonna be the one to disagree.... Tight quench is NOT desireable in a Forced Induction Engine. You want to slow the flame front down in a Forced Induction Engine as much as possible.... IMO .055-.060 and 9.3SCR is a pretty good starting point for the kind of HP your trying to make using t...

Re: worst automotive engines?

MItsubishi 3.0L (Dodge Caravan)..... Needed the aftermarket to come up with wire locks or snap rings just to keep the fricken valve guides in the cyl head. MItsubishi 2.6L.... Needed the aftermarket to come up with a way to totally delete the balance shafts.... and the cyl heads crack so often that ...

Re: Exhaust thrust

Even on non Fuel Cars the exaust thrust can be signifigant. Take a look at X275, ODR and Outlaw 10.5 cars. You will see the "Ram Horns" we run comming out of the side of the front bumper (some guys still use the fenderwell).... For the past 2 yrs we have been putting them on V-Band connect...

Re: SBC -BRC piston info needed

We ran alot of BRC pistons back in the 80's and 90's.... I don't remember any being 4032 alloy. Everything we bought from them was 2618 alloy and 4.0XX" bore stuff ran with .005-.007 piston to wall clearance. Never used any with skirt buttons but your forgings appear to be from about he same ti...

Re: Help with DCR & pump gas

DCR is a way of getting an idea on cylinder pressure. Weather, traffic, ect. will not change your DCR. Lets take a 350 SBC with 11.5:1 SCR, IVC 67 ABDC which give us 9.0:1 DCR and at 70 F temp and 29.92 BP give a cranking compression of about 235 psi. If we go up to Denver lets say 5280 altitude / ...

Re: Help with DCR & pump gas

There is NO way to determin the maximum. There are too many variables in fuel, combustion chamber shape, cyl head temp, air temp, DA, ect.... to to know 100%. What worked in one engine might not work in another.... What works in Denver probally won't work at Sea Level.... If you build an engine stri...

Re: Maximum corrected compression reverse cooling Chevy LT4

I can give you a few points of reference for some GEN II LTX street engines that I have built over the past few years. All DCR numbers were calculated using the popular "Pat Kelley" free downloadable DCR calculator. Engine 1. (Customer car) 435RWHP (6spd 1996 Corvette) 383 4.030 X 3.75 6&q...

Re: Brooks rods, who has used them?

Maybe it's just me, but used Alum rods are never a good buy. With their definite life cycle and what can happen when one fails, it's hard to take somebodys word that 5 passes is really not 500 passes... Not to mention Books rods haven't been made in a number of years. There is just no way I could ri...

Re: American Racing Header Co

How much did you pick up with them? I'm going to be purchasing an ls3 camaro soon and I am definitely interested in these headers. Seems like they would be one of the best first purchases for the car. I honestly do not know. We have not dyno'd either car back to back with the only change being the ...
