Re: BBC rear main leak

I get what you’re saying but it could have affected the way the two seals meet and created a problem. I guess we’ll never know. Never been a fan of silicone in an engine. Sorry. As previousley stated, Felpro recommends silicone on the 2 joining faces and the block. How would it affect how they matc...

There wasn't that much there the first time, shit spreads, best it spreads to the outside of the engine.
Thanks Tom, someone that knows at last. You must be an engine builder as well.

Re: BBC rear main leak

I have blown it up larger than the forum allows. I think most of us see in the second photo a big gob of silicone in the seal cavity holding the seal away from seating on the block. There is also seen some silicone behind the main seal lip which might not allow the lip to flex normally. So yes, dis...

Re: BBC rear main leak

Dave, are you able to ENLARGE the first pic to have a good look at the edge of the seal in the corner? I know you can see the silicone but what about the problem area that I have mentioned many times? The sealing edge is not there. Its not that the silicone ate it away. Seems you must have had a bad...

Believe that's just a photo optical thing, the seal is offset, parting line.
Yes, optical thing. Can anyone see the sealing EDGE isnt there on one side, didn't think the picture was that bad. Leak has nothing to do with the silicone

Re: BBC rear main leak

Just from my experience you will be hard pressed to get a seal company to pay a big repair bill for labor. And as mentioned if you show them that picture with gobs of silicone under the seal I am sure they will not pay the claim. I have used a little silicone under the seal from time to time and th...

Re: BBC rear main leak

Agreed :( Should not be any in the area. And I am not sure exactly what part of the seal is supposed to be "missing" ?? You cant see the difference between the 2 pics?? Are you familiar were rear main seals actually seal on the crank? The sealing edge is not there on the first pic. It is only about...

BBC rear main leak

Just pulled engine after refresh and this is were the leak came from. Definetley looks like a seal fault. Just wondering if Felpro would be liable for the cost involved in pulling the engine and replacing the seal. The seal has the edge that rides and seals on the crank surface gone. It is only abou...

Re: 427 SBC Pump gas - Trying to get that 700Hp

Have you got pics of the S/Victor plenum porting? They are crap out of the box. Did a B to B on a ported and standard and was worth 39 HP and 35 ft lbs on a 422ci. That cam 290 / 302 @ .050" is too big and your comp is too low as a start.

How about a few more details ? Stock engine in a truck ? Supercharged in a boat ? RPM range. 4.530" bore, 4.375" stroke 4340 scat crank, Dart 325cc heads with minor porting, 822 HP @ 6700, 758 ftlbs @ 5300, pump gas street car. It is internal balance. Freind had it built recently and does give it a...

Adnormal main bearing wear

Any one experienced upper main bearings wearing a lot more than the lowers? This is on a BB Chev Dart block new build. 1 - 4 have excesive wear , # 5 still like new. Clearance 1 - 4 has .00275", # 5 has .0032".

Re: BBC cam bearings

Much appreciated Bill. The CHP12 do only have one hole and they seem to have measurements similar to standard SH616S clevite as they have 3&4 the same, 2&5 the same and 1 on its own. Wonder if the GMP12LT are the same. The bearings in GMP12LT sets have an O/D of 2.120 and they are all the same. Tom...

Thanks Bill, are the Dart 32210030 a direct replacement to the Durabond CHP12 ?
