Re: can this make 520 hp?
Apparently it can. It made 553hp and 531tq. The small cam seemed to be the limiting factor as expected, but should provide the vacuum I need along with the Air Gap and 780vs 3310 and be a nice street engine. Thanks to everyone who helped with advice. Is that with an unmodified Air Gap? Any carb spa...

Re: dropped base air cleaner
It is a 2 inch drop base. I have measured 30/64" from the top of the air horn to the lid. I use a double gasket measuring .095" You will need angle cut vent tubes like the factory carb. Easily done if yours are not angle cut. I personally do not like to mill off choke horns on a street carb , espec...

How close would that lid be to the choke horn do you suppose?rgalajda wrote: ↑Thu May 19, 2022 6:27 am This is the one I used . Original equipment to a 1969 Chevelle BBC holley carb.

I think this is the one you're referring to.steve cowan wrote: ↑Sun May 15, 2022 6:53 pm
There is a thread on here about using a PCV to pull crank case vacuum, I don't have a link but it was in the last month or so.

Re: Engine Diagnosis
I'm curious as to the significance of "(please don't say solder)" My standard wiring technique these days is to use a bare butt connector, crimp it, solder it, and cover it with a shrink sleeve. Does the solder add resistance? The solder work hardens the joint and makes it subject to fatigue. In an...

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
Is there a PipeMax calculation for the design of this exhaust?
It would be interesting to know if that entire length including the muffler would act as a collector extension of if the point of entry into the muffler would define that length.

Re: Engine Diagnosis
Don’t rule out inadequate gauge wire feeding the HEI system enough current. As temps go up so does a wires resistance and when things are at room temps it may be right on the edge of doing what should be done. Other then the wallet. It never hurts go one gauge up in wire size then what’s needed! Al...

Re: Chinesium flywheel....
Sorry about that. I can see where it reads as though I implied that Wiseco is Canadian manufactured. It's a US based company. But when sourcing car parts, (can't include underwear or shoes in this) USA is my target source.

Re: Engine Diagnosis
It used to be that a guy could depend on new parts working as advertised. These days we come across plenty of products from a wide range of manufacturers that simply don't work out of the box (and this is from an industrial maintenance point of view including automotive). Against all of my training,...

Re: Chinesium flywheel....
... I can ferret out parts more to my liking. I've gone out of my way to try and get domestic quality for this latest engine. And by domestic, I'll say Made in the USA more specifically as I can't get pistons (I bought Wiseco) that are Made in Canada. If all goes to plan, it'll be a guaranteed USA ...

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
My goal is to tune the car around the engine and I am confident it will happen sooner rather than later. This is the same approach I intend to follow once the 357 is between the fenders.(Yes, it's finally in the works). The biggest decision at the moment is how far one way (strip/street) or the oth...
