Re: Ferguson to20 tractor continental z120 engine oil system
After cleaning the block I noticed the main oil galley has a restriction after the drilling to the #2 main.

Re: BBC hyd roller lifter question
Of youve done it for 6years you've pretty much answered your own question. Apparently the bores aren't to tight.

Re: Ferguson to20 tractor continental z120 engine oil system
I agree .it looks like something went through the bearing. The rest look fine. The housing bore is .0008 to big to but that's also not going to hurt this thing. I just don't like what's basically a big oil leak coming off the #2 main for the filter plus it filters after going through the bearings. S...

Re: Ferguson to20 tractor continental z120 engine oil system
Anyway, the inlet for the pump is .500 od .it goes straight up to a bracket on the main then makes a 90degree turn and the tube fastens to another 90degree fitting on the pump at the front of the engine. So I think I just want to fabricate some kind of inline filter on the inlet at the bottom of the...

Re: Ferguson to20 tractor continental z120 engine oil system
The tractor has had very mild use since I first put this engine together. The rear main is the only bad bearing.the crank turned great with proper clearances and it was clean. I haven't got the pump apart yet but like I said earlier the filter is located off #2main so the only oil that is filtered i...

Re: Ferguson to20 tractor continental z120 engine oil system
I will draw and post a diagram. It's pretty simple. Pump driven off the front of engine with the inlet tube going horizontal then a 90degree fitting then down to the sump of the pan. One main oil galley feeds 3 galleys for the crank.only the outer cam journals get oil from 1st and 3rd mains ,the cen...

One of the later 8 liter big block chevys would be a good option .you would have to run the factory coil on plug ignition with a controller but you could run a carb if you decided

Ferguson to20 tractor continental z120 engine oil system
I've got this old ferguson to20 tractor with a continental z120 with a bad rear main bearing. Looks like metal went through it and wiped it out.#4 rod which oils through that main looks fine. I put this engine together over 10 years ago. My question concerns the weird oiling system this thing has. I...

Re: 10553ST melling shark tooth oil pump, to much pressure?
It's allways a good idea to know the pop off pressure for the relief valve. I use air pressure and a guage. 75lbs is prob pretty close so if you want less than 75 lbs at wide open hot then change the spring. As the oil gets hotter it will take progressively more rpm to reach the pop off pressure .pu...

If I scratched the cyl deep as it sounds like you did I would have never assembled it untill I knew for a fact what caused it and the rings were ok. I hope you don't have any problems

Put a mechanical guage in it and operate it to verify what's going on before you jump to any conclusions

Re: Can a tach cause a misfire?
Regarding using scopes, practically any ignition or engine fault will show up on a scope, you just need to know what you're seeing. Yes, a broken valve spring shows up on the scope as the spark line/burn line gets all hashy in the affected cylinder. But good luck finding an automotive scope these d...
