Re: 350 Chevy Engine Stutter @ 3,600 to 4,000rpm

Rotor out of phase? A friend said cut a decent size window in an older cap and see where the rotor is hitting the contact point. I went through 3 distrubuors and entually dropped in a good one and 7000 it went :D

Re: Anyone familiar with Q-jets?

Cliff Ruggles has a book on Q-Jets and Modifying them. Danny Ashley was into q-jets at one time I believe most Stock SS stuff. Look up Lars Grimsrud he had a bunch of articles on Q-jets and was very helpful.

Re: Combustion Chamber Pic's

After looking at things a bit.. I might have jumped a bit at the heads. Found I have a cross drilled crank that I don't think is supposed to be cross drilled. The # 8 piston had the top ring in 2nd groove, and the rest of the pistons have the 2nd ring with the bevel up... and that might be causing m...

Re: Combustion Chamber Pic's

I am with you on the fuel wash that seems to be the majorities opinion just not sure why someone would say differently.. anyway going to go with the fuel wash. The guides are good on the one head I checked. All the exhaust valve seals on that head are either torn or pretty well non exsistant.. found...

Re: Combustion Chamber Pic's

I have not touched the chambers, I want to see where the shiny areas are perhaps I could lightly scribe a line where they are, and then do a clean up.

Re: Combustion Chamber Pic's

Newold1.. thanks for your input and honesty... you are very right in assuming my lack of knowledge in assembling race engines. This is in fact the second engine I've taken apart and only put the top end on this bbc. I have a sbc that went together and was reasonably decent, it took this same car 12....

Re: Combustion Chamber Pic's

I should also add that it has seen some 7000 rpm blasts on the street and was shifting 6200 to 6500 on the drag strip going through the traps at 6100-6200. Crankshaft needs to be turned so I'll get have it checked for straightness and perhaps balanced.

Re: Combustion Chamber Pic's

Reason for tear down was low oil pressure last time out. Rear main was through to copper, # 4 main was starting to get into copper as well. Did a compression test a while back before any bearing issue, was 160 or so all around. Suspected the guides or seals were going, as I had a couple of plugs oil...

Re: Rectangle port Intake on Oval port Heads

For what it is worth, I did put a rectangle port intake on large oval port heads but had trouble sealing the rear of the manifold. No track testing but the throttle response seemed better than a direct port match dual plane. I am now in the process of filling in that manifold to port match the heads...

Re: The 128# LCA calculator saga Part II

Warp Speed No disrespect but would care to divulge how you go about selecting a camshaft for an application. A-Z type thing. I am sure you have a lot to offer. I am looking for your 1980's-90's tech mindset here, not the latest Circle track info. For example the engine could be a 10:1 355 or 454 or ...

Not sure what to say about all this computer commando $#@$.. but would like to thank David Vizard for providing a bit of hope in beating the high dollar junk. And I did do that by following his porting infomation and definitely would not have learned from all the tight asse's that are scared to show...

Re: Peanut Port Drag Test

I am also curious to what has been done to the transmission? What keeps the shift recovery near nil on this? LOL awwww, that peanut port makes big TQ, trans is a turbo 350, ATI converter, your actually the first person to notice this along with AMC, probably makes sense to run the engine where it m...
