Re: Brake shoe fitment

The shade-tree method I was told (but never tried) back in the mid-70's was to glue a sheet of coarse sandpaper to the inside of the drum with rubber cement, put it all together with tire for a handle, and spin the drum while slowly adjusting the shoes tighter and tighter. I'm sure somewhere there w...

Re: anyone ever here of "excessive acceleration"

I have a turbo buick, with heads and intake, that were supposedly done by them no info. no history, anyone? thx haven't dissembled the motor , so idea of good or bad. Did some digging at a couple of the Buick boards (www.turbobuick.com, www.turbobuioks.com to name a few, but it was all moving to fa...

Re: Overbalanced 3.75” SBC crank and vibration

is there a cheap from Amazon style tool that will measure vibration? Know nothing about what's available now but a few years ago a coworker had an app on his old iPad that we used to measure the x, y, and z vibrations on an electric motor before and after we replaced the worn rubber mounts. Numbers...

Yes Jon, here it is: http://www.topplocksverkstan.se/FLODESMODULEN.html It was steel pipes of the type used for turbo exhaust manifolds. Water pipes from a plumbing source. Erland Looking for a trend, it appears that after the bend a straight section length approximately equal to the ID of the tube...

Re: Why?

No idea why, but take out insurance after you finish composing and before you click send by selecting all and copying. That way if you do have to log in or anything else goes wrong short of a reboot you can just paste the text back in once you are ready. Just don't forget and cut or copy anything el...

Re: 3d printing

An "old fashioned" way would be to glue and fill the crack shut if necessary to get a smooth surface and build up and hand shape any broken teeth with bondo. Then pull a mold using a soft polyurethane rubber and use that to cast a replacement from hard polyurethane plastic. Years ago I dab...

Re: Acquiring Liquid LN2 in Todays World

I know how to store LN2. I have never done it at my shop. I wanted to know about the evaporation rate as the liquid boils off and how that relates to cost. This does not look like a practical solution due to cost and inconvenience. I am considering two other options. Both would provide an emergent ...

New phrase for blowing up an engine

I've heard and read many euphemisms for blowing up an engine but I learned a new one from Scott Manley in his video on the Blue Origins rocket failure today. He zoomed in on the exhaust right before the failure and pointed out a couple of bright flashes and said that they were a sign of an "eng...

Re: Unique Engine – More Power Needed

Carbureted only. One could accomplish the same IR tuning with a pair of the old 3-bbl Webers, but they're hen's teeth and learning to get them right is a too-long process. How long would the runners have to be to effectively have the same isolation and ram tuning on a plenum as an IR setup? With a ...

Re: 13100 rpm fourbanger restricted to 9300 redline

Trying to approach this from a different direction, this may not be useful. Either the engines are actually making 10% different power, or the power is being made but is being lost in one of them. Start with #1. You say the AFR is the same so the fueling is the same, but do you have any way to measu...

I have learned a lot about improving fuel economy at https://ecomodder.com/forum/ . They have forums ranging from aerodynamics to driving techniques to lots of other stuff. One of the most prolific and helpful posters in the aerodynamics forum (https://ecomodder.com/forum/aerodynamics.html) is "...

Re: cut and sleeve

Don't raise the bridge, lower the water  . If the aluminum is soft enough you could expand the ends of the original tubes a bit. You could test with the piece you cut out, to make sure it won't crack. I used this tool from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077RT3D79 picked at rando...

Re: One wheel always locking before the other

Wild guess: you say new hoses, but how about a partial obstruction in the hard line going to the driver's side caliper? Internal rust, kink, slight crush, bad flare at a fitting ... Anything to unbalance the fluid flow to that side so it always applies just a bit later.
