Re: Neway cutters and seat concentricity
Wow old thread popped up. Fear not, stones can destroy seats just a well as neway cutters can and even the best machines can get seats wrong. As long as the equipment is in good condition its simply up to operator skill. I've seen good and bad valve seats from neway cutters, stones and very expensiv...

Re: Cold lash after 500 miles, yikes!
Please don't get F-Bird fired up 😂 This is an old thread created by me. I just updated it for future readers. The content will remain valid for ages. Lets not pollute it with extra arguments. It sucks when a newbie is trying to learn something but has to filter through all the cockfights to find th...

Anyhow, make your own judgement, if you dont like the lines dont run them, if you like the lines then run them! Simple

Re: 1 5/8” headers and 500hp?
Thanks to all the kind words here. Been reading through this thread. The spreadsheet that I put together a while ago on tube size off the head to power level wasn't specific enough. My bad. There are several "other" parameters that also need to be taken into account and will force a chang...

Re: Benefits of 4-port water bypass on a SBC?
Here are some images of two CFD runs on a head I did recently, showing velocity, one with 1 outlet and one with 2. The sectioned images are the same simulations, just sectioned to see the velocity inside the water flow. The difference is not much where it matters along the Ex side of the head. What...

Re: Cylinder Rust Quandry
Regardless of the humidity, using isooctane as a fuel, for every pound of fuel, the engine exhaust stream will contain 31.5% water. Five pounds of fuel/ hr yields 25.2 oz of water / hr. And that moisture remains in the exhaust system even aftwer the engine is shut down. Too true re the h2o content....

Re: Cylinder Rust Quandry
A short run period from cold start in a humid environment also does this. Aka "30 second run rust".

16407479504846436636314686968137.jpg The gaskets pictured are small block chev top, ford cleveland bottom. You can see the sbc, parallel flow, has similar sized coolant holes along its length(extra under center exhaust ports) but relatively uniform front to rear. The ford cleveland , series flow, s...

Re: Benefits of 4-port water bypass on a SBC?
Please define series flow and parallel flow so we are all on the same page. Parallel is where coolant is entering the cylinder block then being metered up thru the head gasket in a uniform way, kind of divided across each cylinder, (there can/will be different sized holes typically larger on exhaus...

Re: Benefits of 4-port water bypass on a SBC?
What are some thoughts when we fit sbc engines backwards On a rake angle in a boat? We feed water into front like normal and pull water out of rear of heads as that is the highest point Most fit outs people put a blank plate over thermostats hole but still put temp gauge sensor next to thermostat I...

Re: Benefits of 4-port water bypass on a SBC?
CJ, The term 'large' is relative. The head gasket hole size regulates flow, with holes in the head & block usually larger. The largest holes & the greatest number of holes that transfer coolant from block to head are at the rear of the block. The only mod that Smokey did was to plug those l...

Re: Benefits of 4-port water bypass on a SBC?
No, SBC. You should read Smokey's Power Secrets book. He details things that were tried to improve on the factory cooling. Geoff , where are these "large rear interconnecting passages between head and block" on the sbc? So now lets just imagine then that smokey bored some large rear passa...
