Re: HDPE coil spring seats/spacers
Well, they are both polyethylene. LDPE, HDPE, UHMW in order of increasing "density" or molecular weight. I too am interested in whether UHMW is suitable for spring seats. I think it will swell with moisture absorption and also suspect that it may creep under consistent pressure. Maybe that...

Re: Rod bolt tightening
Just to put a "wrench" in the works here, consider the twist in the fastener with the torque/angle method. And further, if the thread friction is less than under head friction some of that twist may unwind in service, effectively trading twist strain for tension strain which is desired as ...

Re: upper control arms
I replaced the lower ball joints on my 04 Silverado in the original arms. Set the arms up on the milling machine and did a proper job removing the rivets. Bolted the new ball joints in. Didn't even need an alignment. Maybe I'm missing something but why can't you do the same? A little tougher without...

Re: 65 BBC top end problem
Could it be a rocker arm making the ticking sound? I seem to recall a chevy BBC or maybe it was an inline six making a ticking sound that would come and go as the pushrod turned while running (I put a paint pen mark on pushrods to verify that they are spinning as a witness that the tappets are likel...

Re: Starting engine on engine stand
Stack some heavy stuff on the legs of the stand. Like several iron cylinder heads to add mass and lower CG.

Re: Copper head gasket markings
Manufacturing reference perhaps. Each time the tooling is setup for production run an additional stamp is added. To track production runs.
Just a guess...

Re: out of round question
The temperature inside the combustion chamber is always transient and depends upon various parameters like cooling system, load on the engine, combustion chamber shape and the like. But the temperature is usually around 1500 degree Celsius. Working fluid temps, sure. Cylinder temp no way! I think w...

Re: Intake manifold restoration work.
That's ugly.
Why do you need to weld it? Can't you just machine it down a little lower? I doubt anyone would notice if the thermostat sits 1/8 inch lower.

Does the 2.56 gear have limited slip? Seems like it must be to run that quick.

Re: Explain this GM 602/604 Crank Balancing numbers
If I was a manufacturing engineer at GM I'd be looking for a way to balance without installing flexplate and damper.
I'm anxious to hear the real explanation. Curiosity.
