Discussion about E85
Racers, specifically those of you running E85. I want to learn more and am considering running it in a SBC, 383, high compression, trailered, dedicated drag race car. Or, in your experience, is Methanol a better choice. In reference to consistent ETs which fuel, E85 or Methanol holds the biggest adv...

Re: Thunderbird racers
RW Tech, about bolt in rear suspension, no, I have not considered doing so. I have lots of experience with ladder bars and four links and understand them and know how to tune them. Plus, I intend to build a new frame inboard of the OE frame to allow a larger tire, thus, the OE bar locations will be ...

Frnkeore, my age is 77, I have a lifetime of experience with Chevy engines. Plus, I either have the parts on hand or have connections for most of the parts I need. So, simply being practical.

Re: Thunderbird racers
71 Vette, I agree and think the platform has great potential. I have notice in recent years we are seeing more models that formally were not popular. From my personal view, I like things that are different. I have built a lot of cars through the years and my theme has usually been to build something...

Thunderbird racers
I am beginning the buildup of a 9th gen Thunderbird [1988 model] Some years ago the project was started as an NHRA stocker but the project fell on hard times and has been abandoned and neglected. It was completely torn down, cleaned, painted and 8-point roll bar installed. That is as far as they got...

Chevy LS engine with carb. drag race potential question.
For those of you with LS engine experience. Using the example of a 4.00" bore x 3.75 stroke, iron block, well done cathedral port heads, cast intake, methanol carb, dome piston providing at least 12:1 compression, enough cam for 7400 - 7500 shift point. Given the above guideline, what is the po...

Re: carburettor cleaning
Ultrasonic is an excellent tool. I have one that will accommodate 1/2 of a SBC cylinder head at one time, then turn it around for the other half. It is amazing how clean parts come out. Carbs come out looking great and one of the advantages is cleaning small nooks and crannies that are difficult to ...

Mr Rebel, I appreciate your feedback and agree with your thoughts. You reflect my gut feeling. They will be excellent bench race topic parts.

Re: service life of Brodix heads
I do not know the process used for the former repair. I was done by a former employee of Brodix who opened his own shop, so I suppose he was up to speed about the process. The repair was successful for several seasons. It is a good set of heads and if the seat leak can be satisfactory repair I would...

service life of Brodix heads
I have a set of Brodix Track 1 heads that have been fully work and have run very well for many years. They are fast and consistent. They are also at least 25 years old, maybe more and have been repaired once when a rod broke and damaged a chamber. [this happened several seasons ago] Lately, they dev...

Baker Engineering Pro Cam, mechanical fuel pump
Does anyone have experience with this pump? Will it [15-pound style] pull fuel properly from a rear mounted cell in a 6.30's 1/8 mile drag car? [methanol fuel]

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?
Also consider this. If the piston and rod assembly were to be separated [as in reusing rods on new pistons] a press with proper tooling could be used to do so that would not harm the piston nor rod. Thus, the same tooling setup could be used to slightly tweak the pin centering. But, this may not be ...

Re: How centered does a piston pin need to be?
If it were mine to do, I would proceed in this way. Install a piston/rod assembly, without rings, as a mock up test. "IF" the pin completely covers the piston pin boss then the assemble is acceptable. Even if one side of the pin extends beyond the piston pin boss, there is nothing to gain ...

Re: holley no choke but fast idle option
You can easily do as you are wanting with a manual cable. Leave all the choke hardware in place except for the choke plate and the rod going to it. Then use the manual cable just as if it were operating the choke, except it will only be operating the fast idle cam. I have done several as described. ...
