Re: Header Kits
I've used Schoenfelds product for years, building my own headers. They sell a BIG box, 36' worth, of misc. bends for about $180. Stepped headers might widen the power band a bit. They might include a couple of pipe sizes in their big box of bends for the 'step' process? They also manufacture flanges...

Re: Intake Valve Size ?
DV might suggest an intake valve size of 51-52 % of bore size. Then he might also suggest an exhaust valve size of 75-78 % of the intake valve diameter? -Dave-

We've always had great service from WiseCo in OH. They 'build' us to any reasonable piston spec. Dave

The pipe formula...... one more time: Peak Torque RPM = Pipe ID cross-section area(square inches) x 88,200/(divided by) single-cylinder volume in cubic inches. -Dave-

Re: Step okay from exhaust port to header tube?
The primary pipe ID of the header is solidly linked to peak TORQUE rpm, similar to intake manifolds. The following equation for determining the relationship between pipe ID size, single-cylinder displacement, and the peak-TORQUE rpm point is very helpful for determining your engine properties/needs....

Re: radiator question
In the latest issue of the performance magazine, Speedway Illustrated, there is an outstanding article regarding the cooling fan/shroud assemblies. Mechanical or electric. The article is very technical in nature. -Dave-

Re: solid billet roller cam and lifter life span question
Mike Jones has the experience, along with many others, but we're quickly finding out here that the relatively new Isky roller follower may be the way most will go. No needle bearings....... a solid bearing with pressure oil. We run the things 7600-7800 all day/night long in a SBC on short paved oval...

Re: Distributor cap longevity with CD Ignition.
Walter x 2! I discovered cap ventilation 30 years ago, when we began to run/use the new, at that time, MSD-6 analog ignition box. We race short-track paved ovals. Without the ventilation, the distributor cap would last about 7 races out of a 20-race season schedule. The plug terminals would arc-pit ...

Re: More HP from spark plug gap
In 30 years of running SBC's on short paved-oval tracks, I always drill .25" vent holes directly under all (8) plug-wire terminals in the distributor cap. I discovered very early on that excessive ionization inside the cap, with a good electronic ignition box, can be a power killer. Irregardles...

Talk to Comp Cams & see if they may recommend their relatively new 'Conical' spring. They're good for frequency suppression. -Dave-

Good question! We out here would love that answer for 10:1/12:1/14:1 static compression ratios. The ratios used by a large % of the racing community. -Dave-

Re: Ignition choice
Geek....... Initially, I had the same problem with the analog -6 at one point. Sent it back to MSD and they had to replace capacitors inside the box. The problem? Insufficient grounding to the chassis when I mounted the box. ANY MSD box MUST have a good ground. I ran a #10 wire from the box all the ...

Re: Ignition choice
I have successfully used the MSD-6 box for many years. I have it checked/upgraded by MSD every (2) years for our paved-oval racing. I use a Mallory distributor. Another thing I did, which improved performance a bit, was install a 12VDC-to-16VDC converter to power the MSD unit. The MSD box will accep...
