Re: LS cruise timing

While looking at factory tables keep in mind the OEM's have to meet NOX emissions standards............ And to reduce NOX they are required to use richer A/F closer to stoichiometric than you would use for best economy. I've been using 40+ degrees in the cruise area of every LS combo I've been tuni...

Re: LS cruise timing

Are there any thoughts on how much this strategy will save? That is if you go from say 30 deg.@14.7 to 40 deg. and a lean burn do you get 1, 2, 5 mpg better? It will be more than just one or two, more like several. If you have an engine on the dyno and you put it at a low load Cruise RPM area, you ...

Re: L92 600 Crank HP

The copo engine is 4.125 bore and Chevy performance heads, not factory turds. Plus that Hi ram will kick the crap out of the those junk vic Jr style intakes. The blocks are considerably better than factory. Like comparing apples to atom bombs. There is a reason those engines are pricey. You can't co...

Re: L92 600 Crank HP

Don't do the dual plane intake, use the Edelbrock Victor Jr or the Holley 300-131 instead. Unported 823 heads with LS9 exhaust valves & stock LS3 intake valves make 585 HP on a COPO 350 NA with a 226°/236° @ .050" cam with 525" lift (ASA Cam), and they make 640 HP on a COPO 396 with a ...

Re: Prove it to me....Camshaft Gear Drive is a HP Killer

I don’t know the weights on my Manley Pro-Flow valves. But they are 2.025/1.685 w/ 3/8 stems and bead-lock keepers, Ti retainers. Valve sizes are dictated by rules. Manly would not provide hollow stem’s; said you wouldn’t notice as this size valves are inherently heavy. Last year I ran to 8k every ...

Re: Prove it to me....Camshaft Gear Drive is a HP Killer

What are your valve weights & peak lifts? It'd be great to get the valvetrain optimized so you could lower your open spring loads. I did a spin rig test on a .700" lift combination with 900-ish lbs over the nose, then 650-ish lbs, and it was 12 ft lbs less to turn it with lower spring press...

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?

In my.view, part throttle operation doesn't get the attention it deserves. Right, exactly. A street car with distributor ignition should NEVER run with no vacuum advance, locked centrifugal advance, etc. All the time I see EFI cal files created by "tuners" that don't have nearly enough sp...

Re: Ignition advance at cruise rpm?

Here's a very common timing curve from a mid 60s GM 350 motor with 10.25 comp and 180 psi of cranking compression. The picture in Mag2555's post is a good reference. Unless it's a boat or a loaded truck, the engine will only have about 30-40 ft lb load against it at low throttle cruise on the freew...

Re: AFR O2 Sensor Location: Best Practice

Typically you will see 0.3-0.5 AFR difference between sensors in the primaries near the cylinder head and the collector, assuming a full exhaust or turn-down elbows on the end of the collectors. So if sensor in collector reads 13.0:1, you will probably see 12.5:1 close to the exhaust port.

Re: Non-resistor plugs with coil-on-plug ignition

It will work fine as long as your main power and ground for aftermarket ignition boxes or EFI controllers are ran straight to the battery, with no grounding to the chassis of the car. Otherwise you stand a really good chance of having problems, like the engine suddenly shutting itself off, because o...

Re: NHRA STOCK valve job

Stock eliminator is not an entry level class and it’s not inexpensive. I’ve run every thing from Compitition eliminator to Super stock. I’ve stepping out of a Top dragster to stock and I feel it’s a tougher class and has more honor I would certainly argue that a good super stock engine is more labo...

Re: NHRA STOCK valve job

The problem is that many believe that a Stock Eliminator car goes fast only because the engine. There will always be those that complain because they do not want to spend the money and work on their car to make it go fast. I know of many racers that have great and powerful engines, nevertheless, th...
