Re: Oil pan gasket 434 SBC

It is a 79 Bronco with a 605 A head engine. Sand dune truck that sees street driving any chance i get. Maddog headers and full exhaust. I couldn't stand how the copper looked and noticed the new grey is good for a decent amount of heat so i figured i wouldn't be out anything but time if it didn't wo...

I use Ultra Grey on the headers now, no problems.

The flange doesn't "see" that much heat.

Re: Ford Distributor gear.

Bronze gears can last a long time if a bit of work is put into smoothing and de burring the cam gear.

Re: 10553ST melling shark tooth oil pump, to much pressure?

I'd run it.After oil is at temp if it's still more pressure than you want then change the spring.

It's a pain but it will be lower pressure with oil up to temp

He's saying to color the back of the bearings completely then install and torque, remove bearing and inspect the back. Interference will show by removing the color

Re: air cleaners best worst?

Researching 4500 drop base filer setups. Holly has several be they fail to list what the actual drop is. I am ok using a 16-inch filter setup. I am trying hard to not have to resort to a body lift or a hood scoop on my pulling truck. Does anyone have a part number for a 4500-based large drop filter...

We use it all the time at work (Tool&Die) and get it from the welding supply we use.

So look into welding gas supply shops in your area.

I've had good life out of them, but some TLC needs to be put into the cam gear-de burr, smooth hobb marks and stone it up.

Of course you have to think of doing that while the cam is out :D

Re: Fuel pressure gauge

Are they both liquid filled? If one is getting more heat than the other it will read different.

Drain the liquid out and they won't be affected by heat.

You can use a heat gun on a liquid filled gauge and see pressure changes.

Re: BBF help

It isn't unheard of for them to break but i've never had one do it but i run a rear sump and the pickup tube has a strap mounted to a main stud so supposedly that helps brace the pump. Heard of drag cars getting tire shake breaking them also. I ran a regular melling for years and now have the Kaasse...

Re: Cleaning Combustion Chambers: Quick Question

I just use mineral spirits. Set the head upside down so chambers are up and deck mostly level and fill the chambers with the mineral spirits and let it set.

It will soften the carbon up and can just brush it clean.

Re: How much to flow heads

frnk , I think you've misunderstood MT's statement . I read and understood it to mean . Why do it for $50 , they come in dirty, missing parts or needing repair . You waste a lot of time getting them ready for the 1/2 hr job that it should be . They pay hourly shop rate for time spend doing the job ...
