Re: Oval port 496 drag test
John's car works real good. With the good air that Houston gets it is making closer to 800 h.p. on days like yesterday. With some good lightweight aluminum heads it might go nine teens.

Re: Dyno Results for the RPC heads/for Chad Spiers
I wonder how much this engine would slow down in a '70 Chevelle weighing appx. 2755 lbs., having the same drivetrain. The Chevelle is much less aerodynamic. Where did you go to find the aerodynamic information for your generation 3 Camaro?

Re: crankshaft weight and HP
A local SS/JA racer took 10 lbs. of weight off his rotating assy. The car slowed down about a half second, from low 10s to mid 10s. One would think you'd pick up a tenth or two but not in his case. Sounds like your working on a small block engine with the crank weights being so light.

Re: Barton Super Stock Hemi's
Please look more closely at the SS rules. Factory block, crank, rods, piston weight and dome volume, stock heads with stock port volume, etc. They are allowed a tunnel ram as long as the carms are offset, but they have to use stock carbs. I guess you all are missing my point. If 9,800 RPM and over ...

USMC_Spike, For a guy on a limited budget you need to let Vortec Pro to build you one of his 468 or 496 engines. They will do everything you want at a very reasonable price. You can likely wind up spending around 8K and it will outperform the crate engines easily.

Re: Wheelies and ETs
The higher the front, the rounder the tire, the rounder the tire, the faster the car.. I have a friend that has a SS/CA Camaro. He had the opposite experience with higher wheelies. If limited to about 1.5' of daylight the car controlled the landing better and the E.T. was a little quicker. Radial S...

Re: Gaterman Lifters?
My son had a Trailblazer SS with a stock LS-2. When he first started to hop it up a little he had problems with the LS-2 lifters. We bought a set of the more expensive Morel tie bar lifters and a small cam to go along wth some 225 CNC TFS heads. He decided to trade vehicles late last year so he pull...

Re: lsx lsx454 BLOWS UP. lsx 454 BREAKS. lsx-454 BLOWS OUT BORE
I can't see how anyone can think a engine block with 4.40 bore centers can possibly have a minimum thickness of .200. A bore of 4.25 means you are down to .150 of material between the cylinders at the very most, any core shift and your way thin. Once you go out to the major and minor thrust areas th...

I developed my own 1/4 mile performance formula for predicting the results of a good solid pass, based on a couple of dozen real world cars at the drags. I took into account: Total weight with driver Crankshaft HP ET MPH With two "knowns", I can calculate and solve for an "unknown&qu...

...I like it. But ......."The maximum temperature of about 2800 °C is achieved with a pure stoichiometric mixture"..... I would think that it would be pretty tough on pistons, unless an overly rich mixture were used. ...Cole Bingo! Per this Mythbusters vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

Re: 700+hp sbc 23 degree heads
I had to go in some of your threads and you didn't post the sheets to see what the power was. I did find where you stated you guys were at 1.8hp per cubic inch. You said it is a 402 small block so this would be 723.6 horsepower before you and Tom started gaining horsepower. I know Butch said your t...

Re: New valve broke - what caused it?
I just recently had a customer break an SI valve. It did it during break in at 1800rpm with a solid roller spring. It broke the head off and the head was in three pieces, the stem from the head to where the undercut ends was another broken piece, and the rest of stem was severly bent. The customers...
