Re: Bolts to studs for the mains.
Plastiguage with bolts, then again with studs, if there is not much difference & the crank spins free by hand you'll probably get away with it.

Re: 383 sbc first dyno experience
Has anyone had any experience with total seal gas ported top ring? I just ordered a set 1.2mm gas ported 1.5mm napier 3mm low tension Looking at going back on the dyno after Xmas Using same cylinder heads but will look at modifying with more porting, steeper valve job, angle mill for a bit more comp...

Re: Clover Lapping Compound
I don't have any lapping compound in the shop. When I do heads for other shops they sometimes ask if they should lap the seats lightly before assembly - I tell them I'll be pissed if they do! Prussian blue to check a valve job, blue the valve, tap on seat, clean the valve, tap on seat again & the bl...

Re: Mating Two V8's, ( Freight Train) vs. Harmonics
All I remember is what I was told fifty years ago from a guy who raced something similar. He said, 45-degrees seems like it should be the way to go, but keeping them in line at 90-degrees is what actually works best. Twin engine race boats the same thing was found, having the engines fire together ...

Re: Cam gurus, I need advice
I do not think it is worth it to change the hyd roller cam you got for whats being suggested. I would use 1.6:1 rockers on the intake valves your comp cam. I would consider adjusting the cams installed position +/- if you think it needs it. (the only way to know is to actually test that) I WOULD co...

Re: 8.2 Deck Dart/World Windsor longest stroke possible?
Pretty sure you can do 3.625" stroke, 5.4" small journal chev rod & 1.000" comp height piston.
That'd give 388 cubes with a 4.125" bore or 393 cube with 4.155" bore.

Re: Accidentally bought an Esslinger 2.3 sohc race motor...yikes!
I get customers on E85 to run methanol fuel stabiliser & seal the fuel tank if it's gonna sit for a while. If it's gonna sit for a decent length of time I tell them to set up a 2 way tap on the pickup from the tank with another pickup line that can be dropped into a fuel can & run some pump fuel thr...

Re: Filling pin holes in intake runner with splash Zone 788?
Yep, drill a hole somewhere convenient to get access to the water jacket side, bead blast the area clean. I use JB weld for this sort of repair. Apply from water jacket side & pull through pinholes with a vac tester on the port (works great, don't pull heaps of vac, just a couple of little taps to p...

7000rpm - I'd usually defer to .40" min quench.

Re: Accidentally bought an Esslinger 2.3 sohc race motor...yikes!
E85 will tame it a lot, and make more TQ into the bargain. The webers can be tuned to run on it no problem. Just tuning Webers to run properly on gasoline can be a PROBLEM. lol Tuning a set that is calibrated for gasoline to run on E85 would probably give me Turrets! This is a SERIOUS 2.3...

E85 will tame it a lot, and make more TQ into the bargain. The webers can be tuned to run on it no problem. Do a leakdown test, compression test, check lash, buy an on car spring pressure tester & log spring pressures as a baseline. Check spring pressure & lash every 2nd race meet or 500 street mile...

Re: Super Victor sharpie experiment
I’m going to dyno a 400 chev next week. I always cut the top of runners back and grind out the bumps These combos make about 625hp on pump gas I might start with a stock 2925 and baseline dyno engine Then remove intake and do plenum mods and dyno test on same day.. Yep, do that! Like you I always d...

Re: Electric scavenge pump on rocker cover?
Best fix for speedway holdens is restricted pushrods, ported drainbacks, no breather on the RH cover & dual 1" dia breathers on the LH cover. Std vol oil pump with a few mods, block the crossover port behind #4 cam bearing & re-feed that lifter bank from #1 cam brg by drilling a hole & grinding a gr...
