Re: Short Block "Kit" Opinions Wanted

I've seen those rods fail over 450hp.
I would much prefer to see the pro I beams with 7/16 bolts in there.
The rest is fine for 550hp/7000rpm.

Re: Pick a head, any head.

Keep the heads, get a porter to give them a tidy up. Heads are not your bottleneck. Get the comp up to 11:1, ditch the street avenger & put a proper pumper carb on there (the brawler 750's work good on this type of engine). Pop a holley strip dominator 300-25 on it, add 10 deg of cam duration & swit...

Re: 243 LS SSR...Stumped.

I just meant to polish the turn in the direction of flow.
Helps stability.

Re: 243 LS SSR...Stumped.

You can't really, stupid things are too big in stock form.
Concentrate on air speed & stability, just clean up & square the pinch, aim for minimum metal removal to achieve stability & call it good.

Re: 243 LS SSR...Stumped.

That's pretty close to what I use.

Remove the rocker boss, that pushes air where you don't want it to go.
The swirl lump thingy gets cut down, but not completely removed (there is water under there), that definitely helps reduce air speed over the turn.

Re: 243 LS SSR...Stumped.

You need to widen the turn & raise the roof into the bowl, give the air more room to make the turn. Lay the turn back a little (not a lot) & shift the apex on the floor upstream a couple of mm. Blend in the valve job on the short turn only. Finish the turn with 80 grit linishing tape pulled back & f...

Re: Heavy carbon buildup removal

1mm cut off blade in an angle grinder, slot the rivets & remove with impact screwdriver.
Caustic bath is your friend to remove the carbon, blasting can leave crap in the runners that you can't get out but the motor will suck it through!

Re: Harley sportster/evo lifters?

It's a 94 sportster evo engine, was an 883, got wiseco 883 to 1200 conversion pistons & I'll bore the barrels. I'm going to make spacers to turn them into short travel lifters with just enough travel to not hold the valves open on a cold engine. Aiming around 120 crank hp, heads are almost done, por...

Harley sportster/evo lifters?

I'm building a new motor for my personal bike over winter, looking at lifters - suppliers want stupid $$ for lifters, like $400 for 4 damn lifters. I assume they're just a common lifter in boxes that say harley & therefore cost 3x as much. Haven't pulled it down yet, so can't measure up yet - is the...

Re: Building A Nostalgic 1970s Fuelie Headed 350 SBC

IMG_2225.JPG Well tell us man! What happened? My cam choice was wrong. 242/242/.495/.495/108 1.6 rocker on the intake. Add 16 deg on intake, 20 deg on exhaust & more lift, little heads = big cam. Peak tq around 5000rpm indicates peak hp around 6500 if its all working right, you're just short on tim...

Almost certainly rod bearing, they do it if you look at them the wrong way.
Likely killed the crank too.

Re: Building an 11 second 70's nostalgic SBC

A friend of mine has a set of 292's max effort ported by Larry Meax.
The damn things go 300cfm.
The divider wall is so thin it flexes with a finger push.
Pity they have cracks through ex seats.

Re: Bmw N20 main & rod bolt torque?

ke, My AERA software says: Main Bearing Cap (STEEL BOLTS 10.9) 15 FT/LBS, + 90° - USE NEW BOLTS Connecting Rod 15 FT/LBS, + 70°, + 70° - USE NEW BOLTS, WASH & OIL The AERA data is mostly from factory information so that should be correct. You, good sir, are a f*cking legend. Thankyou very much, now...
