Re: Why an engine makes more power off a burr finish

Two words (as usual); application specific.

Re: Pushrod Length, best method

the best durability and transfer of motion is when the valve's line of action (which may or may not occur dead-on the valve's centerline) is as closely aligned to the rocker arms sweep path as possible. In other words, the valve's line of action is tangent to the rocker's sweep arc. this is accompl...

Re: Pushrod Length, best method

I liked the video too. I have never done it that way beither. the midlift 90 deg is the point of tangency to the valve line of action. this is the same thing that is accomplished with the narrowest wear pattern. By definition, the narrowest wear pattern is as near to tangency that can get. Scott's ...

Re: Pushrod Length, best method

90* geometry will yield minimum sweep, and minimum sweep will yield 90* geometry. One is a direct result of the other, and you can't have one without the other.

Re: Solid roller for a 540

That is a lot of head for that compression ratio. My 565 made 927hp & 788tq with a 322cc intake runner. Granted, it is 14:1..this was with a Weiand Team G intake..the good one that they quit making. 2.25" intake valve, .747"/ 289 intake .680/294 exhaust on a 112 lsa. Anyway, velocity ...

Re: Honing lifter bores

It seems you'd argue with your own shadow for the sake of arguing, which I'm not interested in. I just wanted to shed a little more light on your agenda for this thread and some of the truth behind it, that's all. You win, K? =D>

Re: Opinions on main girdles

Girdles don't really add any srtength worth while, but what they will do, is help distribute destructive harmonics across the entire bottom end instead of localized harmonics on each cap and set of bolts. At least that's how I understand it.

Arn't you the guy that never heard of a piloted reamer No carl, I'm the guy you accused of never hearing of a piloted reamer in your childish attmpt to insult me. I told you I use them all the time, but you obviously missed that. But you did say a hone would follow a hole as well as a non-piloted r...

Re: Honing lifter bores

I can shed a little light on the truth here about CNC's shameless need for verification and attention. The original thread on Perf. Boats was started by someone that found their block had lifter bores that were .006" too small. I believe I started the whole argument, as I suggested that the ori...

About 8 or 9 years ago I did this very same thing-- I built a full race 406 and was at 784 HP at 8000 RPM-- I split one cylinder, sleeved it and then split another one.. I took all my parts out of the stock GM block, and put them in a Dart block--- with NO OTHER changes, the HP went up to 814 HP ay...

The closer you can get to coil bind without actually stacking the spring, the better. Of course, this needs to be taken with everything in considertion, max rpm, spring design, valve train weight, lobe profile, etc, but in your case, I'd say .050 is safe.
