Re: Another reason not to buy Speedmaster shit

Obviously the US Customs needs a bitch-slap for allowing that counterfeit crap into the country.

Re: starting/oiling bbc after sitting 3 years and dynamic compression test

Make sure there's clean oil in the pan. Prime the carb, make sure the choke works (if applicable). Popping the valve covers and oiling the valvetrain is not a bad idea.

Fire the biitch up.

Re: Lube for valve stems?

Valve stem seals allow a CONTROLLED amount of lube down the valve stems to lube the guide.

They don't eliminate all oil flow to the guide/stem.

Re: Chevy iron duke

I'd have to be REALLY motivated to swap TO an Iron Duke. I have no idea how I would get that motivated, but I'm thinking firearms and kidnapping would be involved. GM made 200+ changes to the Iron Duke over it's lifetime, and they never did make a proper engine out of it. Given some aftermarket modi...

Re: Anyone know what size this is?

the factory temp sensor in the driver's side head...does it run both the factory in-dash gauge and provide the coolant temps to the computer? It would almost have to. 1994 GMC K1500... originally a TBI 350. The factory gauge doesn't read correctly, but then again neither does any of the other gauge...

Re: Oil testing

I've used CAT, but not for ~20 years.

More recently I've been using Detroit Diesel.

I switched only because I had a co-worker who was a Detroit Diesel subcontractor at our jobsite. He got me a nice discount. I bought a 12-pack of oil sample kits then, and one-at-a-time after those were gone.

Re: Iron Duke race motor???

is the 4-cyl pontiac (gm) iron duke motor a possibility to make a race motor out of. This would be the NON-SD motor. just the regular production block and crank. BE CAREFUL if you're using a production cylinder head. GM made over 200 changes to the Iron Turd over it's production life. Among the cha...

Re: FE Ford lifter bank angle?

Fords use of the big port 4 bbl Cleveland heads on a 302 cid motor was in my opinion purely to dupe a uneducated buyer and get inventory off the shelves. There use of a 60” air flow test pressure ( good for flat out racing) lead them to this motor who’s power band port area wise started at 5000 rpm...

Oldsmobile engines must make fabulous horsepower. They've got a 7-degree valve angle.

Re: HEI ignition, solid core leads & resistor-less rotor

Sorry, folks. I need to back-up to the first post: The HEI ignition used in the Fiat/ Lancia Marelli distributors... You're saying that Marelli used GM HEI modules in their distributors? Or when you say "HEI" are you really meaning "electronic ignition" but not necessarily HEI wh...

Re: HEI ignition, solid core leads & resistor-less rotor

None of this will make you go faster. Solid core wires and non resistor spark plugs just create electrical NOISE. for you and everyone else around you. Not asking if itll make me go faster. Asking if itll work reliably. Like I said, dont care about noise. Race cars dont have radios. Race cars somet...

Re: SBC Oil Filter: 2024's Options?

Wix filters jumped off of my Favored Vendor list when they got bought-out by Mann + Hummel, and started offshoring various part numbers. Seems like there's no way to tell where a Wix filter is made without checking every one--some are made here, some in China, some in Poland, some on Mars. Even the ...

Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

So if I'm reading your last paragraph correct, it's the magnetic pickup coil rather than the actual module responsible for the retard? It's as you say, masked by the centrifugal weights until they max out....then it shows on the timing light. If indeed this is true then a hi po module is a waste of...

Re: HEI pulling timing. Any solutions?

The original GM electronic ignition--early-to-middle 1960s, option K66, I think--used to advertise that the timing retarded 1 degree per thousand RPM. My distributor machine--testing HEIs--shows that to be an approximation. It's not exactly 1 degree per thousand. And of course it's completely "...

Re: holley no choke but fast idle option

You can easily do as you are wanting with a manual cable. Leave all the choke hardware in place except for the choke plate and the rod going to it. Then use the manual cable just as if it were operating the choke, except it will only be operating the fast idle cam. I have done several as described....
