Fuel flow restriction

Wouldn't a fuel flow restriction show up as a progressively leaner a/f as the rpms go up? Logically to me it seems that it would, but in this case it never did. 12.8 a/f across the upper rpms, it just wouldn't rev above 5600. Granted this thing wasn't built to rev, but the engine I'm building for th...

Re: carburettor cleaning

I recently bought a small ultrasonic cleaner to try out, primarily for cleaning grungy engine fasteners. What do you guys recommend as a cleaning solution for this? The instructions only say to use an ultrasonic compatible cleaner...

Re: 11.5 compression, Iron Head, 91 octane

Just thinking out loud...
Aren't the N351 heads 64cc stock? Wouldn't milling them that far (12cc) not only weaken the decks, but also cause other issues?

Re: windsor torino build ideas?

Definitely need to determine what gears are in it. 2.75's was very common in these cars. If your ok with 300hp, the stock heads can be made to work ok with some porting. Much beyond that, you need an aftermarket head...or a shit ton of porting, bigger valves, etc. Not worth the effort and money at t...

Re: How can I get this to seal?

The RTV I got to try this time is permatex 29132, and is supposed to be gasoline compatible. Iirc I used either the high temp orange or the ultra-copper before and it worked for a while, but it turns into a mushy goo after long term fuel exposure. I picked up another stock 351w iron 4bbl intake yest...

Re: How can I get this to seal?

That port goes to exhaust. Never had much luck with silicon or epoxy. Last one i did i used the EGR plate, milled off the mount on the back and plugged the two holes with pipe plugs. I used iirc JB Weld hi-temp epoxy. Cleaned out the port with a Dremel as far down as I could reach, packed it up with...

Re: How can I get this to seal?

The carb base is flat. The manifold flange is flat except for that eroded area on the left side.

I'm going to try the $10 solution first (RTV). If that doesn't work, then off to the machine shop.

Thanks for the suggestions.

How can I get this to seal?

Is there such a thing as gasoline proof RTV? This is on a 1987 iron 351w intake. The EGR port was plugged years ago with high temp epoxy and it has held up well. The old EGR plate and the mounting surface of the intake are pretty badly eroded from EGR. I got it to seal years ago but the seal finally...

Re: Intake swap worth it on this?

The intake is an earlier non-egr unit, but I did put a thick heat insulating spacer under the carb so it does now have a bit of crossover space. I also replaced the HEI of unknown origin that had a completely frozen advance with a old Summit HEI I had, plus put a quicker curve in it. I also replaced...

It's a beater farm truck...1974 C20, TH400, 3.21 gears. Owner is looking for more pulling power from idle-4000 or ...

Re: Anyone know what size this is?

Don't put the gauge sensor there.... Huh? I don't have any other place to put it. Nowhere on the intake we have to put it there. Although I am wondering...the factory temp sensor in the driver's side head...does it run both the factory in-dash gauge and provide the coolant temps to the computer? It...

jeez you cant measure a square... try 5/16 I like to use square thread extractors snap on sells all sizes of square drive, down to 32nds I stole the pic off the Internet trying to find a size. I can't measure it without removing the header and lifting the engine a bit which is an absolute PITA on t...

Re: Why 4 degrees?

The biggest problem with the 300 is the head. Think stock 302 E7TE head flow on a 400" V8. Rumor has it that Promaxx has a CNC porting program for their stock replacement cast iron 300-6 head. Supposedly picks up some 70cfm over stock on the intake side... somewhere in the 220-ish cfm range. An...
