Re: Anyone know what size this is?
Don't put the gauge sensor there.... Huh? I don't have any other place to put it. Nowhere on the intake we have to put it there. Although I am wondering...the factory temp sensor in the driver's side head...does it run both the factory in-dash gauge and provide the coolant temps to the computer? It...

Re: Anyone know what size this is?
jeez you cant measure a square... try 5/16 I like to use square thread extractors snap on sells all sizes of square drive, down to 32nds I stole the pic off the Internet trying to find a size. I can't measure it without removing the header and lifting the engine a bit which is an absolute PITA on t...

Anyone know what size this is?
IMG_20240313_185003_557.jpg '99 vortec heads, trying to install an aftermarket water temp gauge and can't find anything that fits this square drive plug. Bigger than 1/4", smaller than 3/8". I tried grinding down a cheap ratchet but apparently ground through enough of the hardened outer l...

Re: Why 4 degrees?
The biggest problem with the 300 is the head. Think stock 302 E7TE head flow on a 400" V8. Rumor has it that Promaxx has a CNC porting program for their stock replacement cast iron 300-6 head. Supposedly picks up some 70cfm over stock on the intake side... somewhere in the 220-ish cfm range. An...

Re: OEM 351w block and stud girdle?
At the 475-525hp level with a 3.85" stroke, for a non racecar application, do you guys feel that anything beyond stock is even necessary? The stock 2 bolt mains appear pretty beefy.

OEM 351w block and stud girdle?
At what point (power or rpm) would main studs and a stud girdle be recommended on a factory 351w block? Later 80's block if that matters. Also 3.85" stroke.

Exhaust question for mild engine build
2.0" vs 2.5" dual exhaust with small tube headers. Other than sound control, and room to grow...is there any advantage one way or the other on a very mild (basically an enhanced stocker) 350-360 inch sbc or sbf? This thing will spend 99% of it's life below 3500 rpm's, and fuel economy is i...

Re: Small Port Vortec head benefits over other heads?
The one thing that sucks about the factory vortec's is that they are a lightweight casting, and have a bad tendency to crack for no apparent reason sometimes. Especially once they get some miles on them, or when they get overheated because of water loss from intake gasket failures. With that said th...

Re: Porting sbc heads?
Where are you located? I might have some usable vortec's that I'd be willing to let go of. I've never compared ported smog castings versus vortec's, but stock for stock there is no comparison. There is about a 1 full point of compression increase that you would have to take into consideration though...

Re: Sbc 388, help with pistons and possibly cam.
Stock L31 vortec engines are closer to 9.0 compression or a hair less. Like I said originally, I would use the 9.78 compression combo myself, but let me see if I can explain my thought process on using the 9.33 compression instead. First, unless you've lightened the truck a bunch, I bet it is closer...

Re: Sbc 388, help with pistons and possibly cam.
You "might" get away with 87 octane if the timing curve is very conservative, and you don't do a lot of WOT from a low rpm. I would go with the lower compression myself, especially considering your overall combo and the intended usage

Re: Sbc 388, help with pistons and possibly cam.
I assume you are using the advertised duration of 298 for your DCR calculations? If so, this will not give accurate numbers to compare to other manufacturers cams that use a different lift point for their advertised duration numbers. IOW... don't put a lot of weight in the calculated DCR numbers. If...

Re: Is this deep enough?
I was able to get these in about 2 threads by hand, then about 3 full turns with a wrench. I didn't dare go tighter for fear of cracking the pump. I had 2 brands of fittings...some Summit branded stuff and a Fragolla piece. They look and fit identical... probably made on the same assembly line I'm g...

Is this deep enough?
It doesn't seem to me that these fittings are in deep enough, but maybe it's ok.
