Re: Iron head 11.35 CR on 91 Octane

Well if you are gonna try it, you got the right cylinder head on it. I am also curious how that dome is fitting the vortec chamber. I get the try it on your own engine thing. I've done plenty of that. If it were mine I would would probably tighten the quench up and accept the gain in compression, bu...

Re: First valve job with stones

I don't look at in/exh ratio - with the exhaust port in my opinion you are governed by the area of the header flange and throat /valve % you want to use for the application, the CSA falls in between the 2 and flow # are what they are.i did not aim for 228cfm on the exhaust port that's just where the...

Re: LS2 timing chain tensioner block

I have a gen3 lq4 block. It doesn't have any type of tensioner. Will adding a ls2 chain block make a difference? I read a brief mention about preventing excessive sprocket wrap but not sure if that's a real issue. Will the ls2 chain block provide any benefits? Are you sure your block has provisions...

Re: LS head casting No - 0821 dropped seats, is it a thing?

I have seen this only when someone has changed the seating angle to 50 degrees or more ... not otherwise. Now you got me scared, I have quite a few out there with 50 degree seats. My personal engine at 55°'s They are not necessarily that way ... usually only when someone will want two distinc...

Re: LS head casting No - 0821 dropped seats, is it a thing?

Hi, Just wanting some feedback on the LS rectangle port head casting number 0821. We have had a few come through the shop with dropped intake seats and was wondering if this is something that happens often and if so is their a pattern such as build date, overheat etc. If so what is everyone doing t...

I have seen quite a few of those heads, and never saw that on one of them. Maybe I haven't seen any really high mileage stuff.

Re: Question on adding Duration with a regrind.

Need one about 6 degrees bigger atleast , thinking about getting it reground. Wouldn't I gain a little lift as well? Is this usually safe. Will find out the core used first. Its on a solid roller 268/274 .688 lift for a BBF. Went 20 cubes bigger from a 4.14 stroke to a 4.30 stroke. Looking at 6800-...

No way to know but to try. But I think a case could be made for backing that cam up a few degrees. 10 more degrees of duration would get you there for sure

That graphite spray does work good. Not sure if its safe but it does work good. Im kind of paranoid of breathing anything that gets turned into smoke like that though.

Re: Is it normal for a sbc to want over 40 degrees timing?

I wouldn't be shocked to see that engine needing 40° of timing for best ET.

Was the compression ratio increased by way of piston or milling?

Was the throat size increased along with the SSR work?

Re: which mini starter?

I use the GM on my SBC. Very happy with it. It does have a plastic ring gear, but lasts a few years. I just replace the gear when i freshen the engine. I like the fact that it has a nose support. I purchased a gear reduction Denso years ago- flawless. GM vortecs might a smaller style starter- plast...
