Re: 355 y block on the Dyno

Ted, OT but, have you worked with the 368 Linc Y-block? I've always liked that engine and though that, with it's 10.94 deck ht, you could easily do a 4.50 stroker, if there was cam room and enough skirt clearance. Not much to do with the LYB engines here other than working on the stock combinations...

Re: 355 y block on the Dyno

Is there room in the block and cam, for a 4" stroke? Actually there is room for a 4.300" stroke with some careful connecting rod selection. That's a one inch stroker. With a 4.000" stroke and Honda rod journals, typically not a problem. Camshaft clearance issues are what will crop up...

Re: engine masters live feed?

I have a question for competitors and that has to do with correction factor? A lot of you guys come from areas where altitude and air density would be a lot different. How close were dynos to your own testing with correction factors? The 303" Ford Y-Block was down 24HP and 24TQ from my own dyn...

Re: Engine Masters 2019

No secrets on our end. Joe Craine and I are slowly getting parts together for our Y-Block entry. It is based off of a 292 and not a 312. The 312 main sizing has been a proven detriment in making power so the smaller mained 292 it is. Finding a good pair cylinder heads has been challenging. I've lost...

Re: Engine Masters 2019

Just to let everyone know, the Eaton Balancing entry has been approved for this years EMC. Joe Craine and I are teaming up together and we will be entering a Ford Y-Block as the engine of choice. We had some other options but the Y still looks like a contender even with iron heads being used. That b...

Re: Engine Masters 2019

Looks like I've thrown my hat into the ring with my entry submission. The plan is to do another Ford Y-Block and this time with oem iron heads and a cast crankshaft. I'm partnering up with Joe Craine so it should be interesting to see what a 303" Y can do. Ted Eaton / Eaton Balancing.

Re: 2017 Engine Masters ???

As per my post above, the MEL engine I was going to compete with had a serious lifter failure. All sixteen lifters are wiped out and mushroomed to the point that I had to remove them from the bottoms of the lifter bores. The cam bearings as well as the other bearings in the engine look excellent as ...

Re: 2017 Engine Masters ???

The Eaton Balancing entry will not make it for its running in the Monday Vintage engine class. I'll be calling Randy in the morning so that the Monday run schedule can be adjusted. The MEL engine that I working on has a serious cam/lifter wear issue. The increase in lash was first noticed after cam ...

Re: 2017 Engine Masters ???

Getting ready to send my entry in. Just haven't decided on an iron headed 'Mercury' Y-Block or the M-E-L engine. The MEL is getting the nod from my machinist so that's likely the direction I'll be going. I do have a Poly motor sitting in the core building with some interesting hi performance parts f...

Re: EMC 2016

Did any other team(s) 'not' receive their Amsoil for testing? Afraid I haven't received any oil for testing yet. I will be running the engine again tomorrow (Wednesday) to get the final electronics and linkages ironed out. It's actually amazing how much better the score is when designing the engine...

Re: Time for the official 2015 EMC discussion

I'm about to wrap my Y entry up today. Simply have to take care of some loose ends such as mounts for the MSD box and coil and some kind of bracket for the Morse cable. Numbers look good on this end and can only hope that I can repeat the same on the UNOH dynos. I had my share of problems early in t...

Re: Time for the official 2015 EMC discussion

Ted, Where can I get the adapter that puts the Meziere electric water pump to the stock Y-block front cover? I searched it and saw a picture of an adaptor with a Pro Comp pump on it.... Jon Jon. For 2009 & 2010, I did use a Pro Comp electric drive on an adapter for the water pump. For this year...

Re: Time for the official 2015 EMC discussion

Jon. I feel for you on the air conditioning. My best work is done early in the morning (no air conditioning in my shop). Comes mid afternoon, the shop gets pretty hot. Here’s a quick update on my Y entry for the Vintage Engine Class. After going through six blocks, I've managed to find a suitable ca...

Re: EMC 2015 Rules

Barry. Thanks for posting that information. I actually saw my confirmed entry here before getting the email saying that I was a competitor in this years competition. Looks to be a Poly versus Y motor shootout in the Vintage Engine class as it stands right now. Ted Eaton.
