Is this a direct comment at the "Challenger" Disaster?

Re: Electrical connection that is exposed to oil

What will the temp be inside the gear box?
make sure the temp rating on the insulation on the wire is ABOVE the maximum heat the gear box will ever see.
Otherwise the insulation on the wire will melt right off.

Re: Possible piston repair? Budget build....

Nobody has anything to say about the glass beaded ring lands????? IMO they ain't gonna seal very well even if they was straight and true after being glass or sand blasted? That's what I was thinking when I saw the picture. Was hoping I was wrong. Looks like the entire piston was glass beaded. That ...

Re: Volkswagen emissions scandal

On both fuel economy and emissions, we've reached the point of diminishing returns with available and viable technology, and in fact, we've long passed that point. At least for those who do not believe in the mythical 100MPG carburetor. The current technology in use is extremely expensive and fragi...

I am thinking "costs" and "profits" are now at the bottom of the list on this little issue now.

Re: Volkswagen emissions scandal

I think that the people who should look the worst in this matter are the US regulators. Everybody teaches to the test because the test is poorly designed and easy to teach to. No car gets the test emissions in real world use. Then one company gets pulled and made an example for teaching to the test...

That's what I was thinking. The Morels I got came in a package that looks like that, and they have no markings whatsoever on the lifters.
Got them from CStraub a couple of years ago. However, my HDY lifters were the .750" wheels .

[/quote] What exactly tells you that this is pre-ignition leading to detonation....from most things I've seen and read, detonation actually leads to pre-ignition. The pressure spikes and heat from the detonation cycles lead to hot spots in the chamber and cause the mixture to ignite before the spark...

Re: Blown LS: Mild Carnage (with pics)

The cause of failure for this engine is not detonation but pre-ignition. Once pre-ignition has begun it can quickly lead to detonation. In-cylinder pressure measurement would quickly reveal premature combustion pressure rise with resulting heat and power loss. What exactly tells you that this is pr...

Re: SPARK PLUG WIRE ROUTING

May I add to my previous post, I guess that I didn`t do a very good job at conveying my thoughts. Fact: an ignition system will produce no more voltage then what is required to jump that gap at a spark plug and no more. As we build more powerful engines that resist the creation of that ionization i...

Re: SPARK PLUG WIRE ROUTING

Why is everybody making this so hard? You need enough voltage to bridge the gap of the plug under its operating conditions. Doesn't matter what the current is that is available UNTIL the voltage actually jumps the gap. LOW voltage, no current flow across the gap. High voltage with insufficient curre...

Re: High pressure / high volume oil pump

If the pressure stays the same, how can a high volume pump suck the pan dry? If the relief valve is cycling, the circulating volume will not vary with pump size; an HV will just bypass more back into the pump inlet. Why do you insist on making perfect sense ?? You are screwing up a long honored myth.
