Re: Top End Oiling Issue – SBC

bt, Was this engine definitely an original roller engine with a roller cam in it when you started ? Yes, this was a bare block received with the project. 1995 and up OEM roller block, with one piece rear main, and the holes drilled for the spider clamp. Purchased all the internals separately. Thank...

Re: Top End Oiling Issue – SBC

One more thing, I know that the oil hole in the lifters is supposed to face "up" when you install them. Not really sure what happens if you dont.

Re: Top End Oiling Issue – SBC

Another thing to look at is if the pushrods are actually aligning with the oil hole in the rocker correctly. Watch I through its entire travel. I had a very early set of the Comp roller tip rockers that were not made correctly and the pushrod simply was not aligning with the oil hole enough to get a...

Re: 5SFE bubbles still in overflow tank after head gasket replaced

Did you have the head resurfaced ? Almost every aluminum head I see needs resurfacing. Most are fairly straight but there is almost always some indentations around the bore diameter where the gasket fire ring has been digging in and moving around. 99% of the time I can see exactly where the gasket w...

Re: Vortec street 355 max compression? Coolant bypass?

I cant say that anyone I know worries about the bypass at all. The guys run those heads on the dirt track here locally and they are very popular on street engines. I dont even know how its addressed in the factory applications. Maybe they let some flow through the heater core ? Or the thermostat all...

Re: 1969 440 chrysler rear main seal

I simply have never had a rear main seal problem on a Big Block Mopar using the Fel Pro stock replacement seal ? Are you absolutely certain it is the rear main seal leaking ?? Put some UV die in it to be sure. What I do on the back of the seal holder is make sure it is perfectly clean and then fill ...

Re: LS 3 liner OD gaps

I am not there to look at it in person but I simply do not see anything that I would be concerned with ?? I have seem plenty of aluminum import blocks with cast iron liners and there is always some type of line at the edge of the liner. I would probably consider it normal with an aluminum block ? I ...

Re: Burning Oil w/New Motor - Can't Diagnose

Does the engine have a pcv system on it ? look in the hose that goes to the pcv valve. It should be perfectly dry. Is the blue only on start up ? Have somebody follow you down the road and accelerate and de accelerate a few times. Its VERY hard to see exhaust smoke when you are driving.

Re: chain auto parts stores vs internet sellers

Heres my take on buying from dealers. Had 7.3 ford dlesel blow a O ring on HPOP. It was a rush job. Called 3 suppliers-didnt know what i was talking about. Went to my favorite Ford thief and paid $66.00 for 3 O rings. Later that day i looked on internet and they were all over the place for 10 to 15...

Re: what sealant to use on expansion plugs, cam tunnel plug etc

I imagine if you ask 100 engine builders you will get 100 different answers :) I have always used Permatex Indian Head gasket shellac on the pressed in "freeze" plugs and the cam plug. Real easy to apply with the built in applicator. Screw in plugs get Permatex white teflon pipe thread sealer. If th...

Re: chain auto parts stores vs internet sellers

I'm not against buying local at all, supporting small or local business and all that but I can't afford to not have a operating vehicle for 5 days an 4 trips to the parts store, on a standard brake job that took less than an hour to swap parts. I demand better and I'll go where I need to get good s...

Re: Blaster Cabinet Help

I've been using this unit for almost 20 years without any issues whatsoever. http://toolsplususa.com/shop/blast-cabinets/272-professional-blast-cabinets-te48x24.html Having the front access hatch is a very convenient option. You can also load it from either side. Can I ask how loud the dust collect...
