Re: looking for an odd length SBC rod
I agree decking the block is the easiest solution. Just a thought....what about using a 6.100 rod and a .093 thick head gasket? Quench would be pretty tight @ .033.

Re: sbf cam help
The heads I have do not support a heated intake. That's fine but I was just talking about something maybe down the road. If necessary, since the air-gap intake carbs are essentially double insulated, there's other warming methods that don't require having the normal exhaust heat passage through the...

Re: sbf cam help
Clearly, since you're building a 418W.kcengines wrote:Mileage is not the main goal.
However, an intake with a heat riser aids drivability too by warming the carb sooner. I don't know the particulars about your climate but some consider the air-gaps to be Summer only intakes.

Re: sbf cam help
what would a smaller version of the same cylinder head do for this combination? You're just complicating things. FYI, a 418 needs more cam than a 302 to make power in the same rpm range. Put it together with the cam that CK mentioned and don't worry about it. Best guess is it will peak around 52-54...

Re: sbf cam help
i would think based on a cruising rpm of 24-2600 that peak torque should be lower than 4500rpm. im looking to make this thing efficient in its operating range. Thats why i was looking for peak torque around 3000-3500. Is my thinking wrong? You're not completely wrong but some of your thinking is be...

Re: sbf cam help
Ok. I've been thinking about what to do on this combo. Looking for some suggestions. A cam question was asked and answered. What other suggestions do you need? Im sorry. I guess my last question was too vague. There was a question in there? Seriously though...your compression, whether 9.8 or 9.5:1 ...

Re: Using different intake lobes
I understand camshafts only turn half the engine speed but would different profiles require some extra attention to the cam's balance? I never thought about balancing camshafts before reading this article a few years ago. http://www.precisionenginetech.com/tech-explained/2009/06/01/camshaft-%C2%ADba...
