Re: 8.0 ls destroked

Let's just play with some numbers and spit ball a little. My 376 makes around 460 LbFt with a peak HP of 580 @ 6600 If a 338 makes the same LbFt/CI, then it would make around 413.5 LbFt at peak. With 413.5 LbFt at peak HP, you would need the peak to be 7621 to reach 600 HP. A 7600+ RPM LS is not a c...

Re: Project empty pockets

Some 91% Isopropyl alcohol in the take will make just about anything pass. I used to mix 4 gallons 91 octane gas to one gallon alcohol (yes, that's a lot of little bottles) and it cleaned up my junk really well. Ran like crap, but passed smog. As long as you don't go crazy with a cam that has a bunc...

Re: SB2.2 heads

I don't know if it's been shared, but here's a link to one of the best SB2.2 builds. Granted, it isn't a "true" SB2.2 head since the valves were moved, bore space changed to 4.500", etc. but none the less, it's an amazing example of what is possible if you're willing to put in the tim...

Ti Valve margins

Quick question. I have a Del West 2.15"x5.540"x.310" Ti Intake Valve in my 18° SBC heads that had a 45° seat with a .075" margin. Well, the heads ended up having a 52° seat, so we cut the valve seat face to a 52 and now the margin is about .055". My question is, what is the ...

Re: LS alum. block crack!!

Did they break near the welds, or some other place? Did you crack check them before weld, so there was no hair cracks where they broke after welding? I wonder how would cryogenically stress relieving the welds effect things. When a new block cost only 1500$, it is hard to justify the expence if you...

Re: LS alum. block crack!!

I have tried to repair cracks in a few LS7 and LS2 blocks with no success. Hate to say it, but it's not very likely you'll be able to get it fixed. Once you bore out the liner, weld the cracks, and press in a new liner it will most likely crack at another location. I tried 3 repairs on my 1st LS7 bl...

Re: camshaft for 4200lb f250

If you turn the idle speed down it will have a more noticeable lope to it. I put a similar cam in a '87 Jeep Wrangler/5.0 conversion for rock crawling and you can slightly notice it has a little more cam than stock. The thing runs great, but is half the weight and has probably 2x the gear ratio of y...

Re: I need a new electric fan

I have always used the two speed Lincoln Mark VIII fans. They have cooled our 15.2:1 SBC on the street and track just fine, even during hot 105°F days at the track.

Re: SBC rod length

For any given stroke, the longer the rod, the closer the peak torque rpm is to the peak HP rpm. Theoretically, using an infinately long rod, peak torque rpm = peak HP rpm. Hopefully. -Dave- There MAY be some sort of conclusion that could be made when comparing two builds with different rod lengths ...

Re: Reverse cooling an LS engine?

Cole, are you experimenting with different runner lengths on that new intake? Ken No, what makes you think that? I see nothing suspicious about that pic. JK! We were playing around with runner length and TQ/HP curves. You'd be surprised how the long runner held on to the power up top. Defina...

Re: Reverse cooling an LS engine?

I can tell you a stock 6.2 LS3 does not like anything more than 21 deg. timing with the wonderful CA 91 octane crap. If you get a "bad batch" of 91, then we had to lower it to 18-20 to keep from rattling at 2800-3400. The LS heads have a small efficient chamber and do not need all that tim...
